Flattened empty cardboard boxes tied into a bundle

One less thing to work around

Unpacked. Settled in. Still surrounded by boxes?

The new furniture is in place. The deliveries are opened. Choose the cardboard you have and get the space back, without turning a stack of boxes into a guessing game.

Pick the right unit.

A loose box, a ten-box bundle and a compacted bale have separate prices.

Choose with confidence

Boxes, bundles and bales are three different things.

A bundle is ten flattened boxes. A bale is mechanically compacted cardboard, securely strapped together and staged at an accessible loading dock.

Loose empty boxes.

Count each empty box as one item. Remove contents, plastic packing and foam. This choice is for the cardboard box itself.

Bundles of 10.

Flatten ten empty boxes and tie them into one bundle. Twenty-three boxes? Choose two ten-box bundles and three loose boxes. Count each box once.

Compacted bales.

Choose small for 50–150 lb, medium for 151–300 lb or large for 301–500 lb. Every bale must be securely bound and accessible from a loading dock. Unknown weight, no dock or over 500 lb? Ask our team first.

Ready for pickup

A little prep. A simpler pickup.

Choose your items now, then get them ready for your selected pickup day.

A tied stack of flattened boxes is a bundle, not a bale. Do not choose a bale based only on how large it looks.

Your place. One easy pickup plan.

A house, a condo or an apartment. Choose an accessible outdoor spot that works for your property. You arrange the move outside; we take it from there.

Text us about your setup
  1. Empty and separate.

Remove the contents and packing material. Set aside filled household boxes and add them as separate items if they are also going.

  2. Count boxes or confirm bale weight.

Tie each ten-box bundle together. For compacted bales, use the actual weight to choose the correct option.

  3. Prepare the right access.

Loose boxes and bundles need an accessible outdoor spot. Bales need a loading dock; keep them securely bound and tell us about dock access before pickup.

Flattened cardboard

Accepted with preparation

Flattened cardboard is accepted through SWS curbside recycling and the major recycling drop-off centers.

City cost & eligibility
Curbside recycling is included with an eligible paid SWS trash account. The municipal page does not state a universal drop-off charge.
When & how
Eligible SWS recycling carts are serviced every other week. The Anchorage Regional Landfill and WestRock Anchorage Recycling Center are listed as major drop-offs.
Get it ready
Flatten cardboard. Put curbside recyclables loose in the cart, not inside bags, and keep the lid closed for collection.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

For SWS carts

Put the cart at the curb, street edge or alley by 7 a.m. on collection day, not the night before. Leave three feet of clearance on every side, clear interfering snow, face the wheels and handle toward the home and keep the lid closed.

Residential collection and bulky pickup

For your Dropcurb pickup

Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Municipality of Anchorage Solid Waste Services

Use the SWS recycling cart

An eligible SWS trash account with flattened cardboard or another accepted curbside recyclable.

Cost & conditions
Recycling is included with paid SWS trash service; it is not a separate universal no-charge pickup.
Arrange it
Check the every-other-week calendar and place accepted recyclables loose in the cart by 7 a.m.

Only addresses in the collection service area with the applicable account qualify. Bags, bulky items and contamination do not belong in the recycling cart.

Check curbside recycling

Through your building

Start with the property owner or collection provider

A tenant, a building with two or more units, or an address outside the SWS residential collection area.

Cost & conditions
The property account or private collection provider determines service, acceptance and price.
Arrange it
Ask the property owner or manager which provider serves the building and who may schedule an extra or bulky pickup.

SWS residential cart service is defined as single-family service, and its accounts are set up through property owners. Do not assume a postal Anchorage address has the same collection route.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Anchorage residents have municipal self-haul routes, but the correct site depends on item, quantity and load size. The Central Transfer Station handles many ordinary residential loads; the Anchorage Regional Landfill is the required route for larger tire loads, broader construction debris and other restricted material. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Cardboard pickup, from choosing your item to pickup day in Anchorage.

How much does cardboard pickup cost?

One empty box is $59 first and $5 additional. A bundle of 10 flattened boxes is $79 first and $20 additional. Small, medium and large compacted bales have separate weight-based choices shown above.

What are the cardboard bale weight limits?

Small is 50–150 lb, medium is 151–300 lb and large is 301–500 lb. Each bale must stay securely bound and be ready at an accessible loading dock. Contact our team about unknown weights, larger bales or a location without dock access.

Can the boxes still have things inside?

Empty-cardboard pricing covers the cardboard itself. Use Filled household box for boxed household contents. Remove plastic, foam and other packing materials from empty boxes before collection.

Can I put cardboard in my regular recycling instead?

Check your local provider’s cardboard rules, including flattening, container limits and collection days. EPA recommends keeping paper products clean and dry. Dropcurb provides a separately booked pickup; a specific recycling facility or recycling outcome is not guaranteed by this booking.

Can I arrange same-day pickup?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Checkout shows the available dates for your address. Your booking is for a pickup day, rather than an exact arrival window. We send updates and photos after collection.

Where should I put my items?

Use an accessible outdoor spot you are allowed to use, and follow the instructions in your confirmation. Keep sidewalks, entrances and vehicle access clear. You arrange any indoor carrying. For a loading dock or a short building access window, confirm the setup with our team before booking.

Should flattened cardboard be bagged for Anchorage curbside recycling?

No. SWS says recyclables go loose in the cart. Flatten the cardboard and use the every-other-week recycling schedule for an eligible account, or confirm a listed drop-off before travel.Official guidance

Does every Anchorage address use SWS curbside collection?

No. SWS collection covers a defined service area, residential cart service is for single-family dwellings, and accounts are set up through property owners. Confirm the address and building's provider before using curbside instructions.Official guidance
