Tires

Not on the regular city route

Tires are refused by the city and by the county landfill, so they go through the state scrap tire program's permitted processors and approved landfills instead.

City cost & eligibility
Neither the city nor the county landfill accepts tires and neither publishes a rate for them, while the state requires a permitted scrap tire transporter or processor, so call Public Works on 205-664-6810 for the current local route and use the Alabama scrap tire program's permitted processor and approved landfill lists.
When & how
Confirm the current route with Public Works on 205-664-6810 before moving the tires, and then use a facility from the state scrap tire program lists.
Get it ready
Keep tires out of the junk pile and out of the garbage, because the ordinance refuses the entire pile when a tire is present, and keep them out of the county landfill load as well, because that landfill refuses tires, batteries, hazardous waste and liquids of any type.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

One refused item refuses the whole pile

No appliance containing refrigerant, oil or gas is picked up, and that includes lawnmowers and similar gas powered devices. Dirt, rocks, stumps, tires, paint, propane tanks, batteries, medical waste and hazardous materials are all refused as well, and the ordinance states that if any of those items are present the entire pile is not picked up. Commercially created trash and construction refuse, and homeowner construction refuse from major lot cleaning, home construction, major renovation, repair or demolition, are outside the service, and a licensed commercial hauler may be used for that work instead.

Safety gear, free days and what the landfill refuses

The Shelby County Highway 70 Landfill at 401 Landfill Road accepts trash, garbage and debris Monday through Saturday for commercial haulers and the general public, and it holds two free days each year for county residents, which in 2026 fall on Saturday, March 28 and Saturday, October 3 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Since May 1, 2026 anyone entering the municipal solid waste or construction and demolition working cell has to wear a hard hat and a safety vest, with an exception for residential customers using the convenience area only, and children stay in the vehicle. The landfill refuses hazardous waste, tires, batteries and liquids of any type, and it closes on Sundays, New Year's Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

City of Alabaster Public Works with the Shelby County Highway 70 Landfill and the Alabama scrap tire program

Move tires through the state scrap tire program

A household with tires to get rid of, which neither the city nor the county landfill accepts.

Cost & conditions
No local tire rate is published because neither the city nor the county landfill accepts tires, and the state requires a permitted transporter or processor, so call Public Works on 205-664-6810 for the current route and confirm the charge with the permitted facility before hauling.
Arrange it
Ask Public Works for the current local option, then use a permitted processor or a landfill approved to accept scrap tires from the state program lists.

Tires left in a junk pile refuse the whole pile, the county landfill refuses tires along with batteries, hazardous waste and liquids, and only permitted facilities and transporters may handle scrap tires in Alabama.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Tire disposal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Alabaster.

How much does tire disposal cost?

A non-commercial car or pickup-truck tire is $99 first and $20 additional. A commercial automotive tire up to 120 lb is $125 first and $55 additional. Count each tire separately.

How do I book a set of four tires?

Choose the matching tire type and set the quantity to four. The first tire uses the first-item price and the remaining three use the additional-item price. Review your total before payment.

Do you take tires still mounted on rims?

Text our team a photo before booking so we can confirm the scope and price for your setup.

Can my tire shop take the old tires?

Ask the tire retailer or your local waste authority about their collection options and requirements. If the tires are already at home, Dropcurb offers a separately booked outdoor pickup for the listed tire types.

Can I arrange same-day pickup?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Checkout shows the available dates for your address. Your booking is for a pickup day, rather than an exact arrival window. We send updates and photos after collection.

Where should I put my items?

Use an accessible outdoor spot you are allowed to use, and follow the instructions in your confirmation. Keep sidewalks, entrances and vehicle access clear. You arrange any indoor carrying. For a loading dock or a short building access window, confirm the setup with our team before booking.

Where can Alabaster residents take tires?

Not to the curb and not to the county landfill. The city ordinance lists tires among the items that are never picked up, and a junk pile containing a tire is refused in full, while the Shelby County Highway 70 Landfill states that it does not accept tires, batteries, hazardous waste or liquids of any kind. Alabama requires anyone who transports or processes scrap tires to hold a state permit, and the scrap tire program publishes the permitted processors and the landfills approved to accept scrap tires, so the current local route is confirmed with Public Works on 205-664-6810.Official guidance

What will not be collected in Alabaster?

No appliance containing refrigerant, oil or gas is picked up, including lawnmowers and similar gas powered devices, and dirt, rocks, stumps, tires, paint, propane tanks, batteries, medical waste and hazardous materials are all refused, with the ordinance stating that a pile containing any of them is not collected at all. Commercially created trash and construction refuse, and homeowner construction refuse from major lot cleaning, construction, renovation, repair or demolition, are excluded too and belong with a licensed commercial hauler. The county landfill also refuses hazardous waste, tires, batteries and liquids of any type.Official guidance
