No charge. Jefferson County residents can drop off electronics at the county events at no cost, and the county says most electronics are free at the year-round businesses it lists. Paper is limited to five boxes.

Wipe stored data first, bag loose cables and chargers, and take rechargeable batteries out of the recycling cart. Items in the collection include computers and laptops, printers, scanners, fax machines, cell phones, tablets, rechargeable batteries, security equipment and small kitchen appliances.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Jefferson County collection events
Televisions and monitors, computers and small electronics, large appliances, batteries, paint, chemicals, used oil and grease, and tires without rims.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Jefferson County residents can drop off household hazardous waste, electronics, and used cooking oil and grease for free at the county events. Tires are limited to eight without rims per visit.
Arrange it
The 2026 household hazardous waste events are April 25 and October 17, 8 to 11:30 a.m., and the electronics and shredding events ran January 31, March 14, May 9, June 13 and September 12, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Call 205-325-8741 for the current schedule.
Events are held on set dates at rotating sites, so confirm the location and hours before you load, and keep the material sorted by category.

Cost & conditions
The county says most electronics can be dropped off for free, but televisions, CRT monitors and certain printers may carry a fee, so call the business for hours and the price for your device.
Arrange it
Call one of the businesses the county lists: Secure Shredding and Recycling at 135 Distribution Dr in Homewood, Gone For Good at 101 Oslo Circle in Birmingham, the UAB Recycling Center at 620 11th Street South, or the Bessemer Recycling Center at 1601 1st Avenue North.
Acceptance and any handling charge are set by each business rather than by the county, so confirm before you load and keep screens whole.
Birmingham residents have three municipal ways to move a large load: the neighborhood bulk trash route, the four district dumpsters, and the public unloading area at the Eastern Area Landfill. Household hazardous waste, appliances and electronics run through Jefferson County event days instead, with year-round electronics businesses listed for the rest of the year. A computer monitor is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Choose the actual devices and quantities to see your combined price online. A separate desktop tower and monitor are separate items. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; review the total and any applicable tax before payment.
Can you pick up old electronics today in Birmingham?+
Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout and have the prepared items outside according to your confirmation. Does computer removal include my monitor and printer?+

Do you erase data from old computers?+
Data erasure and certified data destruction are not included in Dropcurb removal. Back up the information you need, then follow the manufacturer’s sign-out and reset instructions before pickup. If a device cannot be erased or contains sensitive business information, arrange suitable data handling before giving it away. Yes. Box of electronics is an existing option for small devices, cables and chargers together in one box. A monitor, desktop computer and printer each have their own item option. Send a photo before booking for a large or heavy box, unusual contents or separate batteries so we can confirm the fit.
Can electronics go in the blue recycling cart?+
No. Electronics, cables and cords are on the recycling program's not-accepted list. Use a county electronics event or one of the year-round drop-off businesses the county lists.Official guidance
How do the city collection days work?+
Each neighborhood has one dedicated day a week for household garbage and is marked as a week 1 or week 2 group, which decides the recycling week. Recycling runs every other week on the same day as garbage, and bulk trash follows its own dated neighborhood calendar.Official guidance
