Refrigerators, washers, dryers and other appliances

Special rules apply

Appliances are on the city's published acceptable trash list, so a stove, washer, dryer or dishwasher can go out with the weekly trash and yard debris collection. The city does not separate a unit that holds refrigerant from the rest of the list, so confirm a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner with Public Works before you set one out.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included in the residential garbage service the household already pays for each month, within the 15 cubic feet of trash and yard debris allowed each household every week; a set out above that allowance is charged on the city's published overage schedule.
When & how
Set the appliance out on your scheduled service day in front of your own property, and call Public Works at 251-620-2100 first if the unit holds refrigerant.
Get it ready
Empty the unit before it goes out, keep it separate from the material on the city's non-acceptable list, and keep the pile clear of the road, storm drains and other people's property.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

The cart and the debris pile follow separate placement rules

Garbage goes in a city issued 64 or 96 gallon semi automated cart, bagged first with the lid closed, placed at the curb within six feet of the street no later than midnight before your collection day and no more than 24 hours early, and brought back in within 12 hours after collection. Carts stay at least four feet apart and out of the street, ditches, storm drains and gutters. Trash and yard debris goes in front of your own property rather than a vacant lot or a right of way, and when both collections fall on the same day the materials go in separate areas of the curbside.

One allowance a week, and the overage is charged

Each household may set out 15 cubic feet of trash and yard debris a week, and the city charges on a published overage schedule that starts at a base charge and rises with the volume above it. That allowance is part of the residential garbage service the household already pays for each month. The city's acceptable examples are appliances, bicycles, fire wood, furniture and yard debris, and its non-acceptable list covers a long run of material the trucks will not take.

Use the weekly trash and yard debris collection

A Daphne household with furniture, an appliance, a bicycle, fire wood or a mixed pile of trash and yard debris that fits the weekly allowance.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Included in the residential garbage service the household already pays for each month, within the 15 cubic feet of trash and yard debris the city allows each household every week; a larger set out is charged on the city's published overage schedule.
Arrange it
Set the material out in front of your own property on your scheduled service day. The city says a call is not needed and that no special pickups are allowed.

Anything above the weekly allowance is charged on the city's overage schedule, and the non-acceptable list still applies: concrete, asphalt, batteries, tires, paint, oil, glass or porcelain, televisions and construction debris or lumber outside the monthly pickup are not collected.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Daphne's own routes are the cart and the curb: garbage in a city issued cart, and trash and yard debris in a pile in front of your own property on the service day, with a weekly household allowance and an overage charge above it. Material the city refuses is the resident's responsibility under the city's own guidance. The published county routes are the hard-to-recycle centers in Summerdale, Fairhope and Gulf Shores, which take electronics at a handling fee for each unit along with paint, household chemicals, car batteries and tanks, and the Magnolia Landfill in Summerdale, which accepts household garbage, construction and demolition debris, yard waste, furniture and bulky waste items and tires. The authority publishes no price for the landfill and charges set fees at the centers, and its bulky pickup program does not serve addresses inside city limits, so an item the city will not take is either hauled out by the resident or removed by a private service. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Appliance removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Daphne.

How much does appliance removal cost in Daphne?

A full-size household refrigerator is $109 as a single item. A washing machine is $109, and a dryer is $109. Other appliances have their own catalog prices. Choose each item to see your exact total before booking; disposal and recycling costs are included in the item price.

Can I get same-day appliance pickup in Daphne?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Your pickup is scheduled for a day rather than an exact arrival appointment, and we text you before arrival. Have the appliance disconnected and ready outside by your pickup readiness time.

Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.

Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?

Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

Does Daphne take appliances at the curb?

Yes. Appliances are on the city's acceptable trash list and go out with the weekly trash and yard debris collection in front of your own property. A refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner holds refrigerant and the city's list does not separate those units, so confirm one with Public Works at 251-620-2100 before you set it out.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Daphne?

The City of Daphne Solid Waste Division, part of Public Works, runs garbage, trash and yard debris collection inside the city limits, with the office at 26435 Public Works Road and answers at 251-620-2100. Garbage goes in a city issued cart and the trash and yard debris pile goes out separately in front of your own property.Official guidance

Where do apartment and townhome residents put debris?

At apartments, townhomes and similar residences the city asks that debris go in front of your own property or in an area the property designates, and never in a vacant lot or a right of way. Garbage still goes in a city issued cart with the lid closed, and each cart stays at least four feet from the next one so the truck can reach it.Official guidance

What kind of garbage cart does Daphne require, and when does it go out?

Household garbage is bagged and placed in a city issued semi automated cart of 64 or 96 gallons with a tight fitting lid, out at the curb within six feet of the street no later than midnight before your collection day and no more than 24 hours early, then taken back in within 12 hours after collection. Red bags are not used, because the city does not collect medical waste.Official guidance
