Keep the mattress out of the brown garbage cart and set it on the trash pile instead. Keep the whole pile within about two cubic yards or the equivalent of 15 bags.

The pile still has to stay clear of sidewalks, drains and traffic, and prohibited material such as appliances, electronics, paint, tires and glass still cannot be mixed in.

Only Chastang Landfill is listed for household garbage as well as trash and demolition debris; the other sites are listed for trash and demolition debris only, and Chastang takes credit card payment only. Tires are a separate route: the city does not collect them on the residential trash day, and its scrap tire page lists H&S Landfill in Semmes among the sites that take them, at a published per tire or per cubic yard charge with a minimum, with no tire acceptance there on Friday or Saturday.
Mobile residents can self-haul, and the city lists four area landfills with their addresses, phones and hours on one page. Only the Chastang Landfill listing includes household garbage alongside trash and demolition debris; the other three are listed for trash and demolition debris only, and the page carries no fee schedule for any of them, so confirm the price and the accepted material before leaving. Recycling and residential electronics are the exception at the curb, because the three city drop-off centers take them free from Mobile residents.
