There is no designated bulk day, so a large pile of yard debris or bulky material starts with a request in Vestavia Hills Connect or a call to Public Services at 205.978.0150, and the city says the pile is collected within ten business days. Keep the confirmation number, do not file a duplicate, and set the material no more than three feet from the curb and away from mailboxes, hedges, walls and parked cars.
Use the first collection of the week for household material
The first collection of the week takes household garbage and small bulk or brush to the landfill, and the second takes the mixed recycling stream, so yard waste does not belong in the second collection. Material has to be out by 6:30 a.m., no single bag or container may exceed 50 pounds, and branches may not be longer than six feet.

Only homeowner generated material qualifies. Televisions, tires, car batteries, lithium-ion batteries, construction debris, contractor generated piles, pool chemicals and medical waste are refused, and bags or containers over 50 pounds are not collected.
Vestavia Hills has no city drop-off or landfill, so self-haul is limited to the city's Shred and Recycle Day for electronics, televisions, hazardous waste, paper and medications. Everything else moves through the curbside routes or a debris and bulk request made in Vestavia Hills Connect or by calling Public Services at 205.978.0150. Contractor generated material and construction debris are the contractor's responsibility, and a roll-off container needs a permit from the city.
