Jonesboro does not collect a mattress at the curb, because the sanitation ordinance forbids bulk waste at the curb and the city will not collect large items such as furniture. Get it ready
Keep the unit dry and tarp or otherwise secure the load, because state law requires every load arriving at the landfill to be covered and secured. Take it to the landfill rather than to the curb, where the sanitation crews are instructed not to collect bulk waste.
Everything goes inside the cart with the lid closed
Bag and tie household trash, put the bags inside the city container with the lid closed, and wheel the cart within five feet of the street edge with the arrows facing out. Put it out no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the day before and no later than 6:00 a.m. on the collection day, keep it five feet from mailboxes and vehicles and out from under basketball goals or high wires, and take it back in within 24 hours.
The sanitation ordinance states plainly that no bulk waste shall be placed curbside and that no bagged or loose trash may sit outside the residential container, and the automated trucks collect only what is inside the cart. Break down boxes and large pieces of cardboard, keep yard waste out of the container and out of a recycling bag, and route furniture, bedding and appliances to the landfill instead.
Tarp the load and strip the compressor before the landfill gate
State law requires every load arriving at Legacy Landfill to be tarped and secured, and only waste from Craighead County is accepted. An appliance or air conditioning unit must have its compressor removed before disposal, hydraulic trailers need working batteries, and construction material is the one residential load a Jonesboro address pays for at the gate.
