Appliances are named among the large household items the city collects on the scheduled bulk pickup, and water heaters appear in the same list. A unit that holds refrigerant is the one case the city singles out, because the bulk service is free except for tires and Freon certification.
City cost & eligibility
The bulk pickup is published as free apart from tires and Freon certification, and the city does not publish what the Freon step costs or who has to provide it, so Republic Services confirms that detail for a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner at 928-855-9441 before the pickup.
When & how
Schedule the pickup with Republic Services in advance, up to four items per visit and six visits a calendar year, and have the unit at the street the night before the collection day.
Get it ready
Empty the appliance and keep the doors secure, and separate a refrigerated unit so the Freon step can be handled on its own. Removed refrigerant canisters are not accepted at the Republic Services office, and the landfill refuses bio-medical waste, so neither route takes the recovered gas.
Carts go out the night before, close to the street and not in it
Place carts at the street the night before the service day, as close to the street as possible but not in it, with the wheels toward the house and the lid closed. Leave three feet to the street and four feet of clearance from other carts, mailboxes, cars and fire hydrants, and remember the collection window starts at 5 a.m., so anything set out later may be missed.
Household waste only, with liquids and batteries kept out
The cart takes residential household waste only, so no commercial material, remodeling debris, dirt or rock, and no tires, car batteries, liquids or other hazardous waste. No hot ashes either, and the cart itself belongs to Republic Services, so it stays with the address. Green waste goes in the trash cart or is bundled and tied at no more than four feet long and 18 inches thick, extra bags go beside a full cart, and paint is the one exception that can be dried out with kitty litter or sand and then placed in the trash.
The bulky collection is a scheduled service, not a standing route: call Republic Services at 928-855-9441, confirm the property is a single-family residence inside city limits, and keep the load to four items on one of the six annual pickups. Construction debris, tear-down material, commercial waste and landscaping are refused, and tires plus Freon certification are the exceptions to the free service.
Only three holidays interrupt collection, and then it runs a day late
Trash and recycling are collected on every holiday except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. When one of those falls in the collection week, service runs one day later for the rest of that week, so a Thursday route moves to Friday and Friday moves to Saturday.
Recycling goes in empty, clean and dry, with the refusals kept out
Glass jars and bottles, cartons, plastic bottles and containers, aluminum, tin and steel cans, foil and pie tins, and paper and cardboard including flattened boxes, office paper, file folders, magazines, catalogs, newspaper, junk mail and phone books all belong in the recycling cart when they are empty, clean and dry. Food waste, clothing, yard waste, styrofoam, ceramics and dishes, light bulbs, window glass and mirrors, plastic grocery bags, construction waste, electronics, motor oil containers and hazardous waste do not.
