A mattress goes out on the town bulk pickup, and the operator lists mattresses with sofas, chairs and tables while refusing anything with bed bug activity. The county document for the transfer station in town does not name mattresses, so the self-haul route is the regional landfill, which lists them as accepted waste.
City cost & eligibility
The quarterly bulk pickup is included in the town's monthly rate and the town publishes no separate mattress price. At the regional landfill that names mattresses, a covered load under 2,000 pounds is listed at $18 and a covered load above that at $38 per ton, an uncovered load adds $10, and an environmental fee of $2 applies to every load. Confirm the current amount at the scale, and ask the operator about the allowance before adding a mattress to a bulk pile.
When & how
Book the mattress on the quarterly town bulk pickup in advance, or take it to the regional landfill Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sundays, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and check it for bed bug activity first, because the operator refuses infested bedding. Stack it parallel to the front property line inside the four cubic yard allowance and keep it out of a recycling cart.
One town contract now covers trash, recycling and bulky items
Sahuarita moved every occupied property with four or fewer dwelling units onto a single contracted service with Waste Connections of Arizona, so a household no longer arranges its own trash hauler. Weekly trash and recycling ride in standardized carts delivered by the town, and large items wait for a bulk pickup that has to be scheduled in advance. Apartment complexes of five or more units, commercial buildings and construction sites are excluded from the program and continue with private haulers, so a reader in a larger building should confirm who serves the address before booking anything. The town's own page also carries a Madera Highlands notice whose service begins on December 1, 2026 with Friday pickup, so a household in that neighborhood should follow the town notice for its start date.
A bulk pile is confirmed, stacked by hand and capped at four cubic yards
The operator books bulk pickups in its app, states that call-in scheduling is not available, and asks for the pickup date to be confirmed before anything is placed outside. Once the date is confirmed the load is stacked on the street parallel to the front property line where carts normally go, without blocking sidewalks, because the crew collects it by hand. The allowance is four cubic yards, an account has to be in good standing with the current quarter paid, and yard debris is bagged under 50 pounds a bag with limbs under four feet bundled and tied.
Tires, refrigerators, freezers, wine coolers, hazardous household waste, medical waste, paint, automotive parts, motor oil, batteries, light bulbs, propane or compressed tanks and construction materials such as carpet, concrete, blocks, pavers and brick are refused, and anything with bed bug activity stops a furniture or mattress pickup. The county transfer station in town takes construction debris, furniture and carpet, limits a household to one item containing Freon a year and takes up to five resident tires a year, while antifreeze, batteries, oil and paint are collected there with a five gallon monthly maximum.

The town states that bulk collection is included in the monthly bill whether it is used or not, at a fixed residential rate of $22.75 a month for the first four years of the contract, and the operator states that some fees may apply depending on the community or location.
