Does Goodwill take sports equipment?

Sometimes. Goodwill organizations set their own regional rules, so confirm with the specific location before you transport an item. Northern New England lists items such as balls, fishing poles and tennis rackets as accepted, but excludes large exercise machines, used bike helmets and recalled products; Goodwill NYNJ accepts small weights but rejects treadmills and ellipticals.

Check the item before donating

Start by identifying the Goodwill organization that would receive the item and checking its current list. Do not assume that acceptance of one sports category means every item is accepted, especially bulky exercise machines, safety gear or recalled products.

If the location will not take it

For accepted leftovers such as a golf-club set and bag, a non-electric bicycle, or free weights, Dropcurb can handle loading, transport and disposal when the items are outside and accessible. You can book before moving them outside, but they must be ready at the pickup location before collection. Indoor carry-out is not available.

When Dropcurb fits

Dropcurb fits accepted larger leftovers such as golf clubs and a bag, non-electric bicycles, or free weights when you can place them outside in an accessible location before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading, transport and disposal; if you need someone to carry items out from indoors, choose a service that includes indoor labor.

Frequently asked questions

Are treadmills treated like sporting goods?

No. Do not assume a treadmill qualifies as ordinary sports equipment. Northern New England excludes treadmills and other large exercise machines, and Goodwill NYNJ rejects treadmills and ellipticals. Check the specific receiving organization before arranging transport.
