Does Salvation Army accept book donations?

Yes. The Salvation Army’s national donation FAQ lists gently used books as accepted, but each local program may have different needs, donation hours and pickup approval. Contact your local Salvation Army before bringing books or scheduling pickup, especially for unusually large sets or damaged books. Pack dry, readable books in manageable boxes.

How to prepare the books

Use manageable boxes and keep the books dry and readable. Ask first about unusually large sets or books with damage.

If your local program cannot receive the collection, check St. Vincent de Paul’s book donation process with the actual receiving organization.

Where Dropcurb fits

Dropcurb fits accepted unwanted books and other items that are already outside and accessible when pickup begins. For accepted leftovers already outside, Dropcurb handles loading, transport and disposal. You can book before moving items outside, but you must arrange an outdoor staging location and move the items there yourself before pickup; indoor carry-out is not available. If you need someone to carry books out from inside, use a service that includes indoor carrying.
