  1. Check what your delivery includes.

If a new mattress is arriving, check whether your retailer is taking the old one. If you need Dropcurb, choose a day when you can have it outside. A delivery window and a pickup day are different arrangements.

  2. Arrange the trip outside.

Plan for doorways, elevators and interior stairs before pickup day. You arrange any indoor carrying. Use a permitted outdoor location and keep entrances and the walking path open.

  3. Make the right mattress easy to find.

Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. Add a location photo and clear access notes so your hauler can identify exactly what is going.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

A mattress is named both in the hauler's bulky item examples and in the Town's answer for bulky items, which tells residents to contact Burrtec directly at (760) 245-8607. Mattress collection also appears as its own hauler program tied to special collection events, so the timing is worth confirming.

City cost & eligibility
From $65.46 per extra residential bulky item pickup beyond the allowance included with the service, on the Town's approved rate schedule effective July 1, 2026. Burrtec residential customers in Apple Valley. The Town and the hauler both route the question through Burrtec customer service at 760-245-8607.
When & how
Call Burrtec at 760-245-8607 to schedule, and ask whether the unit goes on a regular bulky day or on one of the mattress collection events the hauler lists.

Three barrels carry the weekly program

Apple Valley households set out a green barrel with a black lid for trash, a blue barrel for recycling and a green barrel for organics, and each one has its own published list. The blue barrel takes cans, cardboard, cartons, glass bottles and jars, junk mail, magazines, newspaper, paper and plastics numbered 1 through 7, while the organics barrel takes bagged food waste, brush, dead plants, flowers, grass clippings, leaves, pruning, small branches, twigs, untreated wood and weeds. The Town provides free compost or mulch to the community from that organics material.

A bulky pickup is booked by phone, not left for the truck

A bulky item is anything too large to fit in the trash barrel, and the account holder has to call Burrtec at 760-245-8607 to find out how many pick-ups the address receives each year and to schedule one. The Town's approved rate schedule prices each extra bulky item pickup, so the allowance is worth confirming before the item goes to the curb.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Apple Valley's self-haul route for household problem material is the Town facility at 13450 Nomwaket Road, south of Powhatan, which opens every Saturday from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. except on holidays and takes paint, oil, batteries, chemicals, televisions, computer monitors, electronics, tires without rims and home-generated sharps. It is a household service, so business, biohazardous and radioactive waste is refused, and each visit is limited to 15 gallons of hazardous liquid and 125 pounds of hazardous solid material in containers no larger than 5 gallons. Household bulky items such as furniture, mattresses and appliances do not go to the facility: they are collected at the curb through Burrtec, which the account holder schedules by calling 760-245-8607, and the Town's approved rate schedule prices each extra residential bulky item pickup beyond the allowance that customer service confirms. Construction and demolition loads fit neither route, so they go through the hauler's roll-off and construction and demolition service at a quoted price. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Apple Valley.

How much does mattress removal cost in Apple Valley?

The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I book same-day mattress pickup in Apple Valley?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?

The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.

Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.

Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.

How do I get rid of a mattress in Apple Valley?

Through Burrtec. The hauler names mattresses among the bulky items it collects, and the Town's own answer for bulky items like mattresses and large appliances is to contact Burrtec directly at (760) 245-8607. The hauler also lists mattress collection among its special programs, so confirm the date when booking.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Apple Valley?

Burrtec is the hauler for the Town of Apple Valley, and the services are billed by the Town rather than by the company. Customer service is 760-245-8607, and the residential program covers weekly trash, recycling, organics and green waste, a curbside bulky item pickup and an electronic waste collection.Official guidance

How do I schedule a bulky item pickup in Apple Valley?

Call Burrtec at 760-245-8607. A bulky item is anything too large to fit in the trash barrel, and the hauler asks the account holder to confirm how many pick-ups the address receives each year before booking, because the allowance is not published. The Town's approved rate schedule prices each extra residential bulky item pickup beyond that allowance.Official guidance

Can a mattress go in a barrel in Apple Valley?

No. A mattress is far larger than the barrels and is one of the bulky items the hauler names, so it is booked as a curbside bulky item instead. The Town's own answer for bulky items like mattresses and large appliances is to contact Burrtec at (760) 245-8607, and the hauler also lists mattress collection among its special programs.Official guidance
