A mattress mixed into a trash load at the El Sobrante landfill is charged the hard-to-handle rate instead. The hauler's bulky item program does not name mattresses, so confirm with WM before booking one for a curbside pickup.

Each free bulky item pickup covers up to six items or ten 32-gallon bags, and the request goes to WM at least 48 hours before your regular collection day. Items are collected at the curb on the morning of that collection day, so nothing goes out earlier than the morning.

Household hazardous waste, paint, oil, cleaners, medical waste, electronic waste and food scraps are refused in the trash cart, and tires, auto parts and construction waste are refused there too. Hazardous material goes to a Riverside County collection facility, and construction material, appliances, mattresses and tires have their own landfill routes and gate fees.

Arrange it
Badlands Landfill is at 31125 Ironwood Avenue in Moreno Valley and Lamb Canyon Landfill is at 16411 Lamb Canyon Road in Beaumont, both open 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Stop at the scale house to pay, and follow staff directions to the recycling areas.
Hazardous waste, chemicals and chemically treated wood are refused, appliances must be declared and cannot be commingled with other waste, refrigerators must be emptied of food first, mattresses only stay free when hauled separately, and an uncovered or unsecured load is charged a surcharge.
