One computer setup can be several items.

A separate monitor and tower count separately. Small devices and cables have their own box option. Choose what is actually leaving so your price matches the pickup.

Monitor, desktop or laptop.

Choose Computer monitor for each separate display. Desktop computer covers one tower or one all-in-one computer. A laptop is its own item. Add only the devices going.

Printer or office copier.

A printer with a built-in scanner belongs under Printer. A floor-standing copy machine belongs under Office copier. The shape matters more than the brand.

A box of smaller electronics.

Use Box of electronics for small devices, cables and chargers together in one box. For a large or heavy box, unusual contents or separate batteries, send a photo and confirm the fit before booking.

Electronics and televisions

Special rules apply

Electronic waste is universal waste in California and cannot go in any of the three carts. Encinitas residents have a free collection pickup limited to universal waste, electronic waste and sharps, free drop-off at an EDCO buyback center, and a quarterly drive-up event in the City Hall parking lot. One television or computer monitor appears on EDCO's current bulky page while the residential service guide lists electronics as not accepted on that truck, so a screen belongs on one of the free routes and any bulky pickup placement should be confirmed with EDCO first.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free to Encinitas residents on the household hazardous collection pickup when the load is limited to universal waste, electronic waste and sharps, free at an EDCO buyback center during operating hours, and free at the quarterly universal waste drop-off event with proof of residency. A screen added to a bulky item pickup instead follows that pickup's per item fee.
When & how
Call 800-714-1195 or 877-443-2371 for the collection pickup, drop devices at an EDCO buyback center during its operating hours, or use the quarterly drive-up event at the City Hall parking lot at 505 South Vulcan Avenue, which the city lists next for Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep televisions, monitors, computers, phones and other devices out of the trash, recycling and organics carts, because state law treats them as universal waste, and erase personal data before handover. Ask EDCO before adding a screen to a bulky pile.

Cart placement and the holiday delay

Carts go to street level with the wheels against the curb and out of the way of traffic, with at least two feet between carts and three feet from obstructions, and everything out by 6 a.m. on the service day or the night before. There is no residential collection on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day, and the rest of that week runs one day late; a holiday that falls on a weekend does not delay the week.

City of Encinitas Public Works Trash and Recycling Program with EDCO Waste and Recycling Services

Book the household hazardous collection pickup

A household with batteries, bulbs, a device, sharps or a small quantity of paint, oil or chemicals that is hard to load into a car.

Cost & conditions
$10 for copay for a pickup that is comingled with paints, pesticides, motor oil or other chemical items, which the city waives for residents 65 and over. Encinitas residents, booked at 800-714-1195 or 877-443-2371. A pickup limited to universal waste, electronic waste and sharps carries no copay at all.
Arrange it
Call 800-714-1195 or 877-443-2371 to schedule the collection, and separate the load so the free universal waste items are not mixed with chemical items.

The no copay version covers universal waste, electronic waste and sharps only, and any chemical item comingled with that load brings the copay back unless the resident is 65 or over.

Arrange it
Drive into the City Hall parking lot at 505 South Vulcan Avenue during the posted event window, which the city lists next for Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and stay in the vehicle while staff unload.

The event runs quarterly rather than continuously and takes universal waste, electronic waste and sharps only, with the dates posted on the Public Works event calendar.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self-hauling in Encinitas splits by material. Paint, oil, chemicals, batteries and bulbs go to a North County household hazardous waste facility: the City of Vista site at 1145 East Taylor Street or the City of Poway site at 12325 Crosthwaite Circle, both free to Encinitas residents with proof of residency on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and neither requiring an appointment. Universal waste, electronic waste, batteries and sharps also drop free at an EDCO buyback center during operating hours, with sharps required in a rigid sealed container and loose sharps refused, and items too large for the blue recycling cart are taken free at the same buyback centers. The city's quarterly drive-up universal waste event in the City Hall parking lot at 505 South Vulcan Avenue adds another free drop for batteries, bulbs, electronics and sharps. The one load a resident can drive is a large household item on the free annual cleanup coupon at the Palomar Transfer Station, and a manual trailer has to use the Escondido Resource Recovery facility on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Construction and demolition material is different: a covered project has to divert at least 65 percent of its debris, file a Waste Management Plan and keep weight tickets, and the hauling has to be EDCO under the city franchise or a self-haul with the project's own staff and equipment, because a non-franchised third party hauler is prohibited.
