A mattress is a named bulky item and is collected on one of the three free bulky pickups a calendar year.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included in the three free bulky item pickups a calendar year, each covering up to ten large items, for a residential customer whose items a two-person crew can handle. A self-haul load at a county landfill carries an added hard-to-handle charge for a mattress or other item longer than six feet, and the city also points to the Bye Bye Mattress drop-off programme.

Book the pickup with CR&R at (949) 520-6005 or through the online scheduling service for your regular collection day, then put the mattress at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on that day.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress inside the ten item limit and manageable for a two-person crew, set it near the carts with the handles and wheels facing the home, and keep anything that does not fit the bulky definition out of the pile.

A bulky pickup may include up to ten large items, and every item has to be something a two-person crew can handle and transport. Items that cannot fit in the carts are the ones that qualify, and residents of an HOA or a community with shared trash enclosures book through the HOA or property manager instead.

No charge. Three free bulky item pickups per calendar year for a residential customer, with up to ten large items in each pickup. Additional pickups may be arranged for a nominal charge that no retained page states.

Arrange it
Olinda Alpha Landfill is at 1942 N. Valencia Ave in Brea, open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the public, and Prima Deshecha Landfill is at 32250 Avenida La Pata in San Juan Capistrano, open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Loads must be tarped or secured because that is the law, the landfills close on major holidays, Frank R. Bowerman Landfill allows no public disposal, and treated wood is refused at Olinda Alpha while Prima Deshecha accepts it.
Public and commercial solid waste, including construction and demolition material, household loads and clean broken asphalt, which is accepted free.
The site does not accept hazardous waste or chemically treated wood, and every load must be covered or secured before it reaches the gate.
Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for commercial and general public, with 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. reserved for transfer trucks, and closed on major holidays.
