Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Milpitas runs a bulky item and on-call clean-up programme for single-family households, with four free clean-ups in a rolling twelve-month period and at least eight weeks between them. A clean-up can be bags for loose material or a pickup of larger items.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Four free bulky item cleanups a rolling twelve-month period for single-family residential customers, spaced at least eight weeks apart. A clean-up covers one large item or two 1.5 cubic yard bags on the city's reading, and up to three bulky items or up to fourteen 32-gallon bags or two 1.5 cubic yard bags on the hauler's page. Extra clean-ups and additional items are collected for a fee.
When & how
Call Milpitas Sanitation at 408-988-4500 to book, fill any bags at the curb twenty-four hours before the collection, and have the bags or items out by 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled day.
Get it ready
Keep loose material inside the bags rather than beside them, keep every bagged item under 75 pounds, keep wood shorter than three feet and treated wood, auto parts, dirt, sod, cement, rock, brick and hazardous waste out of the clean-up entirely, and move vehicles away from the curb.
Single-family households in Milpitas get four free bulky item cleanups in a rolling twelve-month period, and the cleanups have to be spaced at least eight weeks apart, so the allowance is not four trips in one month. Book with Milpitas Sanitation at 408-988-4500, and expect the hauler to deliver the 1.5 cubic yard bags when that option is used. Extra clean-ups beyond the four are arranged for a fee.
Bags are filled at the curb and nothing heavy goes inside
The bag option works on a weight and size rule. Two company-provided 1.5 cubic yard bags, or up to fourteen of your own 32-gallon bags, are filled at the curb and not more than twenty-four hours before the scheduled collection, everything has to fit inside without protruding, and anything over 75 pounds cannot go in a bag at all. Loose material placed outside the bags is refused, wood has to be shorter than three feet, and treated wood waste, automobile parts, dirt, sod, cement, rock, brick and hazardous waste never belong in a clean-up. Bags and items are at the curb by 6:00 a.m., with vehicles moved clear.
Hazardous waste does not belong in any cart, bin or bag. Paint, petroleum products, acids and bases, batteries, poisons, pesticides, pool chemicals, solvents, fluorescent lamps, propane and sharps go to Santa Clara County's household hazardous waste programme, which is free with an appointment and also takes e-waste. Medications are no longer accepted at the county's San Jose and San Martin permanent facilities. For reusable items, the Goodwill store at 311 W Calaveras Boulevard takes clothing, housewares, electronics including working and non-working sets, printers, microwaves, vacuums, sellable furniture and small appliances, while it refuses large appliances, large furniture, batteries, liquids and hazardous chemicals.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
A single-family household with a mattress, a piece of furniture, an appliance, bags of loose clutter or a small pile of items that cannot go in the carts.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Four free bulky item cleanups per rolling twelve-month period for single-family residential customers, spaced at least eight weeks apart. Each clean-up covers one large item or two 1.5 cubic yard bags on the city page, and the hauler's page allows up to three bulky items or up to fourteen 32-gallon bags. Extra clean-ups and additional items carry a fee.
Arrange it
Call Milpitas Sanitation at 408-988-4500, have the bags delivered if that option is used, fill them at the curb up to twenty-four hours ahead, and put everything out by 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled day.

Arrange a multi-family clean-up through the property
A resident of a multi-family complex whose property manager wants to arrange a bulky item pickup or clean-up for the building.
Cost & conditions
Multi-family complexes can arrange a bulky item pickup or clean-up for a fee, and the city states that all fees must be prepaid. The hauler does not publish the amount on the pages read, so the property manager confirms the price with Milpitas Sanitation at 408-988-4500.
Arrange it
The property manager orders the service from Milpitas Sanitation, prepays the fee, and coordinates where residents place their material.
This is a paid service rather than part of the single-family allowance, and the same item limits and refused materials apply to what the crew will take.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
