Household hazardous waste never goes in a cart or a clean-up pile. Residents can use the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District facility at 4797 Imhoff Place in Martinez free of charge, and the list includes cooking oil, fluorescent lamps, propane cylinders, car batteries, fertilizers, cleaners and personal care products. The carts are strict in the other direction too: recyclables go loose into the blue cart and are never bagged, the green cart takes food scraps and uncoated food-soiled paper with no plastic of any kind, and household batteries go in a ziplock bag on top of the blue cart.
