The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Glendale does not run its own trash route. Waste removal at a house, condominium or apartment is handled by whichever private company the property uses, and the City asks that containers stay in the garage or backyard, or screened in the rear side yard so they are out of view from the street. For anything the regular route will not take, a Glendale household either books the company that serves the property or hauls the load itself to the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site at 3500 South Gun Club Road in Aurora, which accepts bulky items, mixed loads, yard waste and construction debris. Two separate programs cover the items a landfill cannot take: the City pays Waste Management to collect household hazardous waste at a resident co-pay, and mattresses and box springs can be recycled instead of buried.

Couches and furniture

Special rules apply

A couch or sectional leaves Glendale either on a pickup booked with the private company that serves the property or in a household load delivered to the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site, which lists bulky items among its accepted materials. No city or county rate is published for a curbside furniture pickup, so the hauler that serves the address sets that price itself.

City cost & eligibility
Neither the City of Glendale nor Arapahoe County publishes a bulky pickup price, and WM does not post the standard disposal rate for the Denver Arapahoe site. Confirm the hauler quote or the current scale charge before the item is set out.
When & how
A furniture pickup is booked with the private company that serves the property, and the household sets that appointment directly. The Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site takes loads Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it is closed Sunday.
Get it ready
Keep upholstered pieces dry until the pickup, since wet or frozen material is refused by the region's mattress recycler and can complicate a load. Confirm whether the company serving the property wants the item at the curb or in an alley, and leave nothing loose in a self-hauled load.

Bulky items and household junk

Accepted with preparation

Bagged household waste, garage cleanout material and bulky junk move on the regular route or in a self-hauled load, and the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site lists bulky items and mixed loads among the materials it accepts. Containers at a Glendale property have to be approved and secure, and the city asks that they be stored in the garage or backyard or screened in the rear side yard.

City cost & eligibility
Glendale sets no rate for a bulky pickup and WM does not publish the standard disposal rate for the Denver Arapahoe site. Confirm the hauler quote or the scale charge before the load leaves the property.
When & how
Subscription collection runs on whatever day the private company serving the property assigns. A self-hauled load may be delivered Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. or Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the site is closed Sunday, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Get it ready
Keep the load covered on the way to the scale, and screen the container at home so it is out of view from the street. Confirm the route day with the company serving the property, because collection programs differ between companies.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

A mattress or box spring can be recycled instead of buried. Spring Back Colorado recycles every mattress and box spring it takes, charges by the piece for a drop-off at its Commerce City location or an affiliate collection center, and also runs a Denver metro pickup route on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

City cost & eligibility
$40 per individual mattress or box spring of any size at a Spring Back Colorado drop-off location, with a king set counted as three pieces. Published drop-off rate for a standard piece. Bed bug infested pieces, water beds, air beds, mechanical beds, steel frames and mattress toppers each carry a separate published rate.
When & how
Drop-off is available at the Commerce City location, and a pickup can be scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. The recycler runs no residential pickups on Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday, and a truck arrives between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the scheduled day.
Get it ready
For a pickup, every mattress has to be outdoors at ground level and visible from the address, because the driver does not knock or call. Wet or frozen pieces are not accepted, bed bug infested pieces must be wrapped and sealed in plastic, and steel frames have to be disassembled before collection.

A collection is booked with the private company serving the property. A self-hauled unit can be delivered during scale hours, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. or Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the site closed on Sunday and on major holidays.
Get it ready
Empty and clean the unit, secure or remove doors when the receiving site asks for it, and confirm coolant handling before loading a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner, because the landfill is a non-hazardous facility and turns away hazardous waste.

Electronics and televisions

Not on the regular city route

Computers and other electronic equipment are prohibited from landfill disposal in Colorado, so a television, monitor or computer cannot go in the trash or in a load to the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site. The state publishes a list and a map of electronics recyclers, and CDPHE tells households to expect a recycling fee.

City cost & eligibility
Landfill disposal is prohibited by the state, so no landfill fee applies. The state tells households to expect a recycling fee at an electronics recycler, and each recycler sets its own acceptance list and price.
When & how
Recyclers keep their own hours, and CDPHE notes that local governments are not required to fund a public electronics recycling program or collection events, so confirm the counter and its hours before loading a vehicle.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before handing over a computer or phone, ask the recycler what it does with the device, and keep every television, monitor and computer out of a landfill load. Some retailers act as agents for a manufacturer trade-in or upgrade program, which is worth checking before buying a replacement.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

A treadmill or other machine leaves Glendale either on a pickup booked with the private company serving the property or in a load delivered to the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site among its bulky items and mixed loads. No published rate covers the machine, so the price comes from the hauler quote or the scale.

City cost & eligibility
Neither the city, the county nor WM publishes a rate for exercise equipment. Confirm the hauler quote or the current scale charge, and confirm that the machine is accepted as a bulky item, before it is moved.
When & how
The pickup follows whatever schedule the company serving the property runs. A self-hauled machine can be delivered during scale hours, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. or Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the site is closed Sunday.
Get it ready
Take off any console or electronic attachment first, because electronic equipment cannot go to a landfill in Colorado. Weigh the frame and belt before booking, since a hauler prices a heavy machine differently from a bagged load.

Construction and demolition debris

Accepted with preparation

Remodel debris moves in a container ordered from the company the property uses or in a self-hauled load. The Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site lists construction and demolition debris, shingles, drywall, wood, concrete, glass, roofing materials, brush, stumps, mulch and yard waste among the materials it accepts.

City cost & eligibility
WM does not publish the construction disposal rate on the cited pages and the city sets no rate for a remodel container. Confirm the container quote or the current scale charge before the material is loaded.
When & how
Construction loads arrive during scale hours, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the site is closed Sunday and on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. A container is scheduled with the company the property uses.
Get it ready
Separate clean yard waste and mulch from mixed debris, keep liquids, paint and other hazardous material out of the load, and confirm whether the site wants roofing or drywall separated before arrival.

The handoff matters

A Glendale pickup is arranged with the private company that serves the property

Glendale does not run a municipal trash route. The City says trash removal at a home, condominium or apartment is usually provided by private companies, and Arapahoe County says the same for the county area, so the household books the company that already serves the property rather than calling the city. Programs differ between companies, including whether recycling is collected with the trash, so confirm what the company takes before setting an item out.

Keep the container screened and out of view from the street

The City of Glendale asks that trash be in an approved and secure container, and that the container be stored in the garage or backyard or screened in the rear side yard so it is out of view from the adjacent street. Some companies provide the container for a small fee, and the City pays for recycling containers at several complexes, including Cedar Pointe Condominiums, the Cherry Creek Club Apartments and Kentucky Ridge Townhouses. Public recycling bins are also available in Infinity Park.

Household hazardous waste is booked in advance, never set out with the trash

The City of Glendale has partnered with Waste Management so residents can arrange a household hazardous waste pickup by emailing the company or calling its local line, and residents pay a resident co-pay while non-residents pay the full amount. Arapahoe County's own curbside program covers paint products, household chemicals, automotive products, batteries, garden chemicals, mercury containing items, pool chemicals and electronics for the communities it serves. Colorado residents can also use the statewide Henderson drop-off sites, one of which takes household drop-off with no appointment and the other by appointment.

Leftover paint has its own statewide take-back route

PaintCare operates year-round drop-off sites across Colorado that accept house paint along with primers, stains, sealers and clear coatings such as shellac and varnish. Households in Arapahoe, Adams, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties with more than ten gallons can also request a door-to-door paint pickup, which the program describes as free because the cost is covered by the fee on new paint sales. Confirm the nearest site and its hours before loading a vehicle.

Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Review any applicable sales tax and the final total before payment.

Can I book a pickup for today?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Your booking is for a pickup day, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Do my items need to be outside when I book?

You can book while your items are still inside. Arrange any indoor carrying and have everything outside and accessible according to your confirmation. We load and haul it away from there. Contact us before booking if your property has restricted access.

Who sets the price for a couch pickup in Glendale?

The private company that serves the property. Glendale does not run a municipal collection route and Arapahoe County says trash and recycling services in the county area are provided by private companies, so the hauler quotes the item, and a household that hauls the couch to the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site pays the scale rate instead.Official guidance

Where should a trash container be kept at a Glendale property?

The City asks that trash be placed in an approved and secure container, that the container be stored in the garage or backyard, or screened in the rear side yard, and that it stay out of view from the adjacent street. Some haulers provide the container for a small fee, and programs differ between companies.Official guidance

Can a refrigerator still holding refrigerant go to the landfill?

Confirm it first. The Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site describes itself as a regional non-hazardous waste facility and states on its own location page that it does not accept hazardous waste, so a unit that still holds refrigerant has to be cleared with the site or routed to a recycler before it is loaded.Official guidance

Can a television be put in the trash in Colorado?

No. CDPHE states that computers and other electronic equipment are prohibited from disposal in a landfill, because harmful chemicals can leach out and contaminate soil and groundwater. The same page points households to the state list and map of electronics recyclers and warns that a recycling fee should be expected.Official guidance

Who picks up a couch or a load of junk in Glendale?

A private company, not the city. Glendale does not run a municipal collection route, and the City says trash removal at a home, condominium or apartment is usually provided by private companies, so the household books the company that already serves the property. A household that would rather haul the load itself takes it to the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site in Aurora, which lists bulky items and mixed loads among its accepted materials.Official guidance

How does a Glendale household get rid of paint, chemicals or an old television?

The City has partnered with Waste Management so residents can arrange a household hazardous waste pickup by email or by phone, with a resident co-pay and the full amount charged to non-residents. Arapahoe County's own curbside program covers paint products, household chemicals, automotive products, batteries, garden chemicals, mercury containing items, pool chemicals and electronics for the communities it serves, and the state also lists two Henderson drop-off sites that any Colorado resident can use.Official guidance

Where can a Glendale resident take a load without booking a hauler?

To the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site at 3500 South Gun Club Road in Aurora, which is owned by the City and County of Denver and operated by Waste Management and accepts bulky items, mixed loads, yard waste, metals, wood, concrete, drywall, shingles and construction debris. The scale runs Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., it is closed Sunday and on six major holidays, and it states that it does not accept hazardous waste.Official guidance

Does a mattress have to go to the landfill?

No. Spring Back Colorado recycles every mattress and box spring it takes, charges by the piece for a drop-off in Commerce City or at an affiliate collection center, and runs a Denver metro pickup route on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Pieces have to be outside at ground level on the scheduled day, wet or frozen pieces are refused, and bed bug infested pieces must be wrapped and sealed in plastic.Official guidance
