$20 per mattress or box spring at the Mesa County Landfill. Residential loads brought to the landfill, which publishes the item rate for bedding separately from the per ton charge. The load has to be covered and secured.

Get it ready
Cover and secure the load before arrival, and note that a mattress can itself serve as the cover for a load under the landfill's cover rule. Keep it out of the city recycling drop-off and out of the organics cart.
Cover and secure the load before it leaves the driveway
The Mesa County Landfill requires every incoming load to be covered and secured, and the rule is enforced at the gate: an uncovered load is charged double, with no exceptions, and loads cannot be tarped on or near the county campus. A tarp or cargo net, a blanket, carpet or even a mattress counts as cover if it covers the entire load and is securely tied to the vehicle, while a shredded tarp or one loosely tucked into the vehicle does not count.
The city takes the small stuff, the county takes the rest
The City of Grand Junction's Solid Waste Division runs weekly automated refuse collection for residential addresses of fewer than eight units, and as its new programme expands it also adds automated recycling and yard waste compost collection to that service. It publishes no bulky item pickup. Anything larger, from furniture to a renovation load, goes to the county landfill at 3071 US-50, while electronics and appliances with refrigerants go to the county hazardous waste collection facility at the same address.
