Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Electronics and televisions

Special rules apply

Electronic waste has been banned from Colorado landfills since July 1, 2013, so televisions, monitors, computers and the rest of the covered devices go to the Mesa County hazardous waste collection facility, where disposal is priced by weight.

City cost & eligibility
From $0.8 per pound of electronic waste at the Mesa County Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, with a one pound minimum charged on all waste streams. Residential customers. Electronic waste cannot go in the landfill or in a city cart, and the county accepts monitors, televisions, computers, laptops, printers, scanners, stereos and the other covered devices at the facility.
When & how
Take the devices to the Mesa County Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at 3071 US-50, open Wednesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., and expect the charge to be calculated by weight.
Get it ready
Keep electronics out of all three city carts and out of a landfill load, remove personal data before handover, and bring batteries and light bulbs separately because they are accepted as hazardous waste rather than as curbside material.

It publishes no bulky item pickup. Anything larger, from furniture to a renovation load, goes to the county landfill at 3071 US-50, while electronics and appliances with refrigerants go to the county hazardous waste collection facility at the same address.

Take appliances and electronics to the county hazardous waste facility

A household with a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner, a non-hazardous appliance, a television, computer or monitor, or household hazardous waste such as paint, batteries, light bulbs, automotive fluids or pool chemicals.

Cost & conditions
The county publishes its fees by item and by weight, so the charge depends on what is brought: 80 cents per pound for electronic waste with a one pound minimum, 65 dollars for a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner, 10 dollars for a non-hazardous appliance, and free residential limits for paint, batteries, automotive fluids, garden products, cleaning products and the rest of the hazardous list. Confirm the current rate with the facility at 970-256-9543.
Arrange it
Take the material to 3071 US-50 on a Wednesday through Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., and expect the charge to be worked out at the counter.

Explosives other than ammunition and Class C fireworks, radioactive material, bio-hazardous material other than sharps and controlled substances are refused. Residential quantities of paint, batteries, corrosives, flammables, motor oil and pesticides are free within the published limits and charged above them, and out-of-county waste pays an extra fee.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self-haul in Grand Junction means the Mesa County campus at 3071 US-50, where the landfill and the hazardous waste collection facility sit at the same address. The landfill is the destination for household loads, furniture, mattresses and approved demolition debris, open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., and it charges a ten dollar minimum covering up to 380 pounds with loose trash at 32 dollars per ton, mattresses and box springs at 20 dollars each and tires priced per item. Two rules catch people at the gate: the load has to be covered and secured before arrival or it is charged double, and hazardous, liquid, universal and out-of-county waste is refused. The hazardous waste collection facility next door is where the refused items go, open Wednesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., charging 80 cents per pound for electronic waste, 65 dollars for a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner and 10 dollars for a non-hazardous appliance while accepting paint, batteries, automotive fluids, light bulbs, garden products, cleaning products and the rest of the household hazardous list free within published residential limits. The county contact for both is 970-241-6846, and the hazardous waste facility is at 970-256-9543. The city itself runs no drop-off for these materials: it collects refuse, recycling and, where the new programme has expanded, yard waste compost from the curb at the published monthly container rates.
