Thornton runs a free appointment based mattress recycling drop-off for residents at the Infrastructure Maintenance Center, and Spring Back Colorado takes mattresses year round for a fee. Mattresses are also eligible in a Click and Haul collection.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. The city mattress drop-off is free to Thornton residents by appointment only, with proof of residency and a limit of four pieces per household, and residents unload their own vehicle. Registration opens six weeks before each event date. Spring Back Colorado also accepts mattresses year round at its Denver warehouse or by home pickup, where fees apply.
When & how
Register for the next city mattress drop-off at the Infrastructure Maintenance Center, 12450 Washington St., or call Spring Back Colorado at 720-515-1328 for a warehouse drop-off or a home pickup. A mattress can also go out on a Click and Haul collection scheduled at 720-977-6200.
Get it ready
Bring proof of residency and an appointment to the city drop-off, arrive able to unload the pieces yourself, and keep within the four piece limit. On the November landfill day mattresses are subject to an additional gate fee, and the recycling drop-off bins never take them.
The pile goes in the street on the morning of the collection
Click and Haul items go on the street, entirely off the property, by 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day, where a car would parallel park. Nothing goes out more than 24 hours before the collection, the pile needs space around it and away from tree branches and parked cars, and items left in the yard, driveway or sidewalk are not collected. A resident who cannot move the load to the street can ask the Community Connections division at 720-977-5800 about help.

The city mattress and electronic recycling drop-offs run by appointment, with registration opening six weeks before the event date, and the mattress event turns away anyone without an appointment because space is limited. Residents unload their own items, proof of residency is required, and a household may bring up to four mattress pieces. The landfill day on November 7 needs proof of Thornton residency and takes one vehicle load per household with pickup trucks, cars and small single-axle trailers only.

Hazardous materials, tires, concrete or masonry demolition, televisions, computer monitors and certain other electronics, dirt, sod and rocks are refused, and the pile may not sit in the yard, driveway or sidewalk.

Drive to the Republic Services Tower Landfill, 19260 E. 88th Ave. in Commerce City, on Saturday November 7 between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Self-haul in Thornton means a city site or a city event rather than a public landfill. The Infrastructure Maintenance Center at 12450 Washington St. takes appliances such as refrigerators, dishwashers and water heaters on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through the north gate at 126th Ave. and Ogden St., motor oil and antifreeze up to four gallons, and organic material in three gallon compostable bags, and it refuses paint, televisions, furniture and general trash debris. The recycling drop-off bins at the Municipal Service Center and at the Maintenance Center take household recyclables on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mattresses go to the free appointment based city drop-off or to Spring Back Colorado for a fee, electronics go to a priced city drop-off day, and household chemicals go to Veolia in Henderson with a city voucher worth the facility fee.
