Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Construction and demolition debris

Not on the regular city route

Construction and demolition material is refused at the Danbury drop-off center and goes to the Oak Ridge Transfer Station, where loads are priced by item, by the truck or by the ton.

City cost & eligibility
The City's disposal reference states that construction and demolition material is not accepted at the Danbury drop-off center and is accepted at Oak Ridge Waste, with pricing that varies by item and a phone number to call. Demolition pricing is published only as a flat charge for a pickup truck load at water level and a per ton rate for anything larger, and mixed material such as wood, tile, sheetrock, flooring, insulation, ceiling tiles and carpeting is priced on request.
When & how
Keep the material out of the Danbury drop-off center trip and call Oak Ridge at (203) 743-0405 to arrange the load before it moves.
Get it ready
Separate a clean load from mixed debris where possible, keep asbestos, clean fill, hazardous waste and large quantities of liquids out of the load because the demolition definition excludes them, and keep asphalt and asphalt shingles separate because they are also refused at the drop-off center and go over the Oak Ridge scale.

Oak Ridge Transfer Station for bulky waste and demolition

A household or contractor with bulky waste, construction or demolition material that the Danbury drop-off center refuses.

Cost & conditions
Pricing varies by item, and the demolition rates are published only as a flat charge for a pickup truck load at water level and a per ton rate for a larger load, so call (203) 743-0405 before the load moves to confirm the price for the specific material.
Arrange it
Call Oak Ridge at (203) 743-0405, confirm what the load contains and how it will be priced, and deliver it during the hours the site confirms.

Asbestos, clean fill and hazardous waste are excluded from the demolition definition and cannot be added to a load, and asphalt and asphalt shingles go to the scale house rather than to a mixed pile.

Regional household hazardous waste collection event

A household with paint and stains, pesticides, fuel, antifreeze, pool chemicals, mercury devices, degreasers or silver oxide batteries.

Cost & conditions
The events are run for the HRRA member municipalities including Danbury and the page does not publish a per item price, but it states that large quantities are subject to fees and that the office will give guidance on request, so call 203.775.4539 or email info@hrra.org if the load is unusually large.
Arrange it
Find the next event in the published schedule, then drive through with the material in the back of the vehicle, remaining in the vehicle the whole time while workers remove the contents.

Bring a driver's license as proof of residency, expect a wait of five to thirty minutes, plan for the event to run rain or shine, and note that the HRRA may inspect a vehicle carrying an excessive amount of material and that medicines cannot be brought to these events.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Danbury residents either subscribe to a private hauler or drive their own material to the Mom & Pop Drop Off and Recycling Center at 307 White St., which needs a permit, takes cash, and publishes a fee for almost everything it accepts. Clean, dry mattresses and all electronic waste are the free exceptions, and the electronic waste container also takes batteries, ink cartridges, fluorescent bulbs and holiday string lights. Furniture, appliances, bagged household trash, textiles, books, cardboard and glass are all accepted for a fee or free on their own terms. The streams the center refuses each have a named local route: bulky waste and construction and demolition material go to the Oak Ridge Transfer Station at (203) 743-0405, paint, fuel, antifreeze, pesticides and other hazardous products go to a regional household hazardous waste collection event, yard waste and clean brush go free to Ferris Mulch Products on Plumtrees Road, live Christmas trees are collected free at the curb after New Year, motor oil goes to a listed auto parts store or service station, tires go back to a retailer or to a named tire shop, propane tanks go to Leahy's on White Street, and medicines go to the Danbury Police Station. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Danbury.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Danbury?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Danbury?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Where does construction debris go in Danbury?

To the Oak Ridge Transfer Station, because the disposal reference states that construction and demolition material is not accepted at the Mom & Pop drop-off center but is accepted at Oak Ridge Waste. Pricing varies by item and the number to call is (203) 743-0405. Asphalt and asphalt shingles follow the same route to the Oak Ridge scale house.Official guidance

How is a demolition load priced?

A pickup truck load at water level is charged a published flat amount, and anything bigger than a pickup goes over the scale at a published per ton rate. Mixed material such as wood, tile, sheetrock, flooring, insulation, ceiling tiles and carpeting is priced on request, and bagged wood or bagged stone brought to the Danbury center instead is charged by the bag.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Danbury?

A private hauler the resident chooses, because curbside collection in the region is a private subscription service. The Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority is the City's solid waste and recycling authority and publishes a chart of registered haulers permitted to collect in each municipality. Trash goes first to a regional transfer station, one of which is in Danbury, and is then shipped to the Wheelabrator waste-to-energy plant in Bridgeport.Official guidance

Can I bring bagged trash to the drop-off center?

Yes, with a permit and cash. Household trash is charged by the bag, and the published rates step up with the bag size, from a thirteen gallon bag to a fifty gallon or larger bag. Commercial vehicles and vehicles carrying loose garbage cannot use the center, so the trash has to arrive bagged in a passenger vehicle.Official guidance

Can textiles and books be recycled instead of thrown out?

Yes, both are free at the drop-off center. Textiles go in a collection container that takes clothing, footwear, accessories and linens, which may be ripped or stained as long as they are dry and bagged. Books are free to recycle but the pages have to be ripped out of both paperbacks and hardcovers, with the binding going in the trash, and a dirty, mouldy or wet book cannot be recycled or donated.Official guidance

What happens at a household hazardous waste event?

Residents stay in their vehicle the whole time, place only the material to be removed at the back of the vehicle, and have a driver's license ready as proof of residency while workers take the contents out. Waits run from five to thirty minutes, the event runs rain or shine, the authority may inspect a vehicle with an excessive amount of material, and large quantities are subject to a fee. Medicines cannot be brought to these events.Official guidance
