The city rents dumpsters for construction and demolition debris, allows small amounts in 32 gallon containers at the curb, and requires a franchise hauler for any private haul, while the county runs two C&D disposal facilities and takes pressure treated wood at its transfer stations for a fee.
City cost & eligibility
The city quotes its dumpster rentals directly through the Solid Waste Division and publishes no rate, and its franchise haulers set their own container prices, so confirm before ordering. The county publishes a per ton rate of $67.26 for commercial material and pressure treated wood at its transfer stations plus the prorated pressure treated wood fee, and the St. Marks and Waste Pro C&D facilities quote their own gate prices.

Contact the city Solid Waste Division for a dumpster, keep small loads within the two container limit on a collection day, or use one of the authorised franchise haulers the city lists, such as Atlantic Disposal at 904-466-4899 or Republic Waste Service at 904-825-0990.

Materials placed at the curb go in 32 gallon containers, at most two per collection day, no longer than four feet and no heavier than 50 pounds, with larger amounts in a rented container. Keep concrete, fencing, flooring, lumber, plaster, roofing, sheetrock and siding separate from household garbage, because the city refuses construction material and vegetative debris at its own facility, and pressure treated wood goes to a county transfer station or a C&D facility instead.
Construction and demolition material set out at the curb goes in 32 gallon containers, at most two per collection day, with nothing longer than four feet or heavier than 50 pounds. Anything larger needs a dumpster rented from the city Solid Waste Division, and any private haul of construction debris must be performed by a hauler holding a franchise agreement with the city. Concrete, fencing, flooring, lumber, plaster, roofing, sheetrock and siding are the accepted materials, and the city refuses construction material and vegetative debris at its own drop-off facility.

Self-haul in St. Augustine splits between the city and the county. The city Solid Waste Facility on Riberia Street takes electronics and batteries on weekdays from 8 am to 2 pm and refuses televisions and hazardous waste, while the city drop-off also takes household appliances that residents bring in. Everything else goes to a St. Johns County transfer station: Tillman Ridge at 3005 Allen Nease Rd in Elkton or Stratton Road at 250 North Stratton Rd in St. Augustine, both open Monday to Friday 7 am to 6 pm and Saturday 7 am to 1 pm, where household garbage, hazardous waste, white goods, obsolete electronics including televisions and flattened cardboard are accepted, with published charges for commercial material, pressure treated wood, tires, bulbs and paint and payment in cash or by check only. Household garbage, hazardous waste such as motor oil, oil filters, gasoline, cleaners, pool chemicals, pesticides, antifreeze, car and appliance batteries, propane cylinders, solvents, paint and fire extinguishers, white goods, obsolete electronics including monitors, televisions, CPUs, laptops, printers and small appliances, and flattened cardboard at the recycling drop-off center.
Fuel must arrive in an approved container that may need to be left behind, cardboard is the only recyclable taken at the drop-off center, the gate takes cash or check only for anything charged, and the station is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
