Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

A television goes out on the priced curbside list, and other household electronics are free to drop off at a Community Collection Center with a photo ID.

City cost & eligibility
From $30 for the published curbside price for a television under 50 inches. A television under 50 inches is 30.00 per item and a television 50 inches or larger is 50.00 per item in the curbside bulky program. Household electronics are also accepted at Community Collection Centers for any county resident with a photo ID at no charge, and the household hazardous waste collections do not take electronics at all.
When & how
Call 813-272-5680 to schedule a television pickup, or take household electronics to a Community Collection Center during its Monday through Saturday hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep electronics out of the household hazardous waste load, because the county excludes them there and routes them to the Community Collection Centers. Remove personal data before a computer or drive leaves the house, and wipe or reset anything with an account on it.

Hillsborough County Solid Waste Services, which serves the unincorporated University community

Schedule a special curbside bulky pickup

A county household with a mattress, furniture, an appliance, an exercise machine, a television, a lawn mower with the fuel drained or another item too large for the gray cart.

Cost & conditions
From $30 for the published price for one bulky item at the lower price on the county list. Most household items are 30.00 per item, including any size mattress, a bed frame and box springs, furniture, an exercise machine, a residential microwave, a lawn mower with no oil or gas, disassembled swing sets, a television under 50 inches and up to 13 bags of insulation, while a large appliance, a commercial unit, a water softener or a television 50 inches or larger is 50.00 per item. An item that is not on the list is priced by customer service.
Arrange it
Call Solid Waste Customer Service at 813-272-5680 before placing anything at the curb for the weekly collection, and set the items out for the arranged pickup.

The service is priced per item, so a group of pieces can add up quickly, and some items have conditions such as a grill without its tank, a lawn mower with the fuel drained, an entertainment center broken down, a sectional sofa limited to two pieces, and insulation bagged up to 13 bags. A cheaper route for a household that can drive the load is a Community Collection Center inside the annual allowance.

Hillsborough County Solid Waste Services, which serves the unincorporated University community

Self haul to a Community Collection Center

A county solid waste customer who can drive bulky waste, appliances, tires, paint, electronics or recycling to a county facility.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Residential customers receive 10 cubic yards of disposal for bulky waste and appliances a year as part of their annual assessment, with the allowance resetting on October 1, and up to 12 tires a year are also included. Once the allowance is used, material has to go to a county transfer station or the Southeast County Landfill at commercial disposal charges.
Arrange it
Use the Northwest County Solid Waste Facility at 8001 W. Linebaugh Avenue in Tampa, or any of the other four centers, open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a photo ID and a copy of the property tax bill for bulky waste, appliances and tires.

Bulky waste has to be unloaded by hand, no dump trailers are allowed, and the 10 cubic yard allowance is about a double axle trailer load or a loaded box truck while a loaded pickup truck carries only about two cubic yards. Paint and electronics need only a photo ID, and electronics are not accepted at the hazardous waste collections.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

University is unincorporated, so Hillsborough County runs the whole system. Weekly curbside collection is funded by an annual disposal assessment of 208.60 per dwelling unit and a collection assessment of 302.17, and a large item needs a special curbside pickup that is priced item by item: 30.00 for a mattress of any size, furniture, an exercise machine, a lawn mower with the fuel drained, a residential microwave or a television under 50 inches, and 50.00 for a refrigerator, freezer, washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven or stove, hot water heater, unit air conditioner, water softener or a television 50 inches or larger, arranged through 813-272-5680 before trash goes to the curb. The cheaper route for a household that can drive is one of five Community Collection Centers, open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., where a county solid waste customer with a photo ID and a property tax bill gets 10 cubic yards of bulky waste and appliance disposal a year, resetting on October 1, and 12 tires a year, with hand unloading and no dump trailers and the Northwest County site on Linebaugh Avenue also taking yard and wood waste and giving away mulch. Household hazardous products go to the Saturday collections: the first Saturday at Sheldon Road, 9805 Sheldon Road in Tampa, the second Saturday at South County in Gibsonton and the third Saturday at Hillsborough Heights in Seffner, all from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a state issued photo ID, and electronics go to a Community Collection Center instead because the hazardous waste collections do not take them. A construction load is not a curbside item, so it goes to a county transfer station or the Southeast County Landfill, where disposal is 130.00 per ton for processable material and 69.00 per ton for non processable with a minimum charge of 10 percent of the rate for a load of 200 pounds or less. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in University.

How much does TV removal cost in University?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in University?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.
