Mattresses and box springs

Special rules apply

McDonough does not name mattresses in its bulky item rule either way, so a mattress is confirmed rather than assumed. If the piece comes in under the published weight limit it can go out as one of the three bulk items on the service day. Otherwise the two established routes are the city drop-off at 560 Macon Street on the first and third Saturday, or CHaRM, which Henry County names for mattresses.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no mattress rate. Henry County lists mattresses among the items it routes to CHaRM, and CHaRM publishes its own mattress and box spring fee by size, so confirm the fee with CHaRM before loading the piece and confirm the curbside route with the City of McDonough at 770-957-3915.
When & how
Try the service day first, because the city services three bulk items then and sets 6 a.m. on the pickup day as the curbside deadline for carts. CHaRM runs by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Atlanta site, and the city drop-off opens on the first and third Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a lunch break.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and clean, because CHaRM refuses pieces that are wet, soiled or infested. CHaRM also refuses crib and baby mattresses, futons, foam toppers, air mattresses and memory foam mattresses, and requires springs, so check the piece against those conditions before booking. Leave it off the curb until the route is settled so it does not take on rain.
City sanitation and recycling page with the required citywide service, the Republic Services operator, the monthly rate on the water bill, the cart sizes and the rule that nothing outside the carts is serviced, the 6 a.m. curbside deadline, the three bulk item service day with the 50 pound limit on each item, the list of construction, remodeling, landscaping, dirt, concrete, carpet and padding material the city refuses, the 560 Macon Street drop-off with its Saturday window, the limb pickup service and the two-week recycling scheduleHenry County hard-to-recycle page listing paint, household chemicals, tires, televisions and monitors, mattresses, propane tanks, thermometers, smoke detectors, bulbs, CFL bulbs and toilets as items routed to CHaRM with fees to be confirmed, naming CHaRM for free Styrofoam and traditional recyclables and sending usable building materials to the Lifecycle Building CenterCHaRM items page with the appointment requirement, the no cash payment rule, the appliance list and per unit resident fee, the electronics definition with televisions and monitors charged and other devices free, the refusal of alkaline and car batteries, the mattress and box spring conditions and fee by size, the car and bicycle tire rule with the per tire fee and the refusals, the household chemical and paint weighing rule with the first 20 pounds free, and the free flat glass, books, usable clothing and cooking oilCHaRM site page with the Atlanta address at 1110 Hill St SE, Atlanta, GA 30315, the phone number 404-600-6386 and the appointment-only hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Three bulk items go out on your service day, under the weight limit

McDonough keeps the large item decision simple. The sanitation company services three bulk items on your service day, and each one has to weigh less than 50 pounds, so the count and the weight are the two things to check before anything goes to the curb. The household stream rides in the 90-gallon cart and the recycling stream in the 65-gallon cart, and the hauler will not service anything outside those carts. Carts go out by 6 a.m. on the pickup day, and the city schedule you were given when the water service started shows which day that is.

City sanitation and recycling page with the required citywide service, the Republic Services operator, the monthly rate on the water bill, the cart sizes and the rule that nothing outside the carts is serviced, the 6 a.m. curbside deadline, the three bulk item service day with the 50 pound limit on each item, the list of construction, remodeling, landscaping, dirt, concrete, carpet and padding material the city refuses, the 560 Macon Street drop-off with its Saturday window, the limb pickup service and the two-week recycling schedule

The city drop-off runs the first and third Saturday of the month

When the service day will not take the load, McDonough opens its own drop-off at 560 Macon Street, the site the city calls the old Mercer Building. It runs on the first and third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closes for lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., and is for City of McDonough residential customers only. The calendar notes that the site is closed on the Saturdays the city highlights, that city hall closes for listed holidays, and that the city may close the drop-off at any time during its published days or hours.

City of McDonough Public Works with Republic Services, and Henry County for hard-to-recycle items

Use the city service day for up to three bulk items

A McDonough household inside the city limits with a couch, a mattress, an appliance, an exercise machine or a small pile of clutter that can be brought under the published weight limit.

Cost & conditions
$26.14 for monthly residential sanitation rate billed on the city water bill, with no separate bulk item rate published. City of McDonough residential customers inside the city limits, where the city requires sanitation service and provides the 90-gallon household cart and the 65-gallon recycling cart.
Arrange it
Set the pieces out on the service day printed on the schedule you were given when the water service started, with carts and items at the curb by 6 a.m. on the pickup day. The city services three bulk items that day and does not publish an appointment step for ordinary furniture, mattress or appliance pieces.

Each bulk item has to weigh less than 50 pounds, and the hauler will not service anything outside the two supplied carts. The city does not name furniture, mattresses, appliances or exercise equipment in either what it takes or what it refuses, so an unusual or heavier piece has to be confirmed rather than assumed. Construction, remodeling, landscaping, dirt, concrete, carpet and padding are refused.

City of McDonough Public Works with Republic Services, and Henry County for hard-to-recycle items

Use the county hard-to-recycle route to CHaRM

A household with a television or monitor, a large appliance, a mattress, tires, paint or household chemicals that the curbside route does not cover.

Cost & conditions
Henry County lists the items and tells residents to ask CHaRM about applicable fees, and CHaRM publishes its own per item schedule rather than a single price, so confirm the exact item and fee with CHaRM at 404-600-6386 before booking.
Arrange it
Book an appointment with CHaRM, sort and separate the load before arrival, and pay by Venmo, credit card, debit card or Apple Pay, because the site does not accept cash. The county hard-to-recycle page lists what goes to CHaRM and what goes to the Lifecycle Building Center or to a vehicle donation programme.

The county sends paint, household chemicals, tires, televisions and monitors, mattresses, propane tanks, thermometers, smoke detectors, bulbs, CFL bulbs and toilets to CHaRM, but CHaRM refuses some of what the county lists, including propane tanks and alkaline and car batteries, so the item has to be checked against the CHaRM list before the trip.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in McDonough runs on two tracks. The county route is the one for hard to recycle material, because Henry County names televisions and monitors, mattresses, tires, paint, household chemicals, bulbs, CFL bulbs, toilets, thermometers, smoke detectors and propane tanks as items it routes to CHaRM and tells residents to ask about fees. CHaRM Atlanta is at 1110 Hill St SE, is open by appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., does not take cash and refuses propane tanks and alkaline and car batteries even though the county lists them, so the item has to be checked against the CHaRM list first. For everything else, the city itself is the drop-off: 560 Macon Street, the site it calls the old Mercer Building, on the first and third Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a lunch break from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., for City of McDonough residential customers only. The county also states that the transfer stations and landfills it lists nearby are not operated by the county and should be called about fees, and that yard debris and recyclables go to the Henry County Recycle Center, whose own page published no address or hours in this session, so that stop has to be confirmed before a trip. 560 Macon Street bulk item drop-off

560 Macon Street, McDonough (the site the city calls the old Mercer Building)

The city describes this as a trash and large item drop-off for its own residential customers and publishes no item level list for the site, so what a particular piece has to be checked on arrival or by phone. It is the published city alternative for material that does not go out on the service day.

City of McDonough residential customers only. The city opens the site on the first and third Saturday of each month and closes it for lunch, closes it on the Saturdays its calendar highlights, and states that it may close the drop-off at any time during the published days or hours.

First and third Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed for lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in McDonough.

How much does mattress removal cost in McDonough?

The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I book same-day mattress pickup in McDonough?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?

The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.

Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.

Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.

Will McDonough take a mattress at the curb?

The city does not name mattresses in its bulky item rule, so treat it as a confirmation. What the city does publish is three bulk items serviced on your service day with a limit of less than 50 pounds on each, and 6 a.m. on the pickup day as the curbside deadline for carts. If the mattress does not fit that route, Henry County names mattresses among the items it sends to CHaRM, which takes them by appointment and charges by size.Official guidance

Who collects trash in McDonough?

The City of McDonough runs the programme and names Republic Services as the company that provides it. Every resident and business inside the city limits is required to have City sanitation service, which is billed as a monthly charge on the water bill and includes a 90-gallon household cart and a 65-gallon recycling cart. The city can be reached at 770-957-3915 and Public Works at 678-782-6272. Henry County handles the hard-to-recycle route instead and does no curbside collection of its own.Official guidance

How many bulk items will the McDonough hauler take?

Three. The city says three bulk items are serviced by the sanitation company on your service day, and each bulk item has to weigh less than 50 pounds. Carts and items go to the curb by 6 a.m. on the pickup day, and a missed pickup caused by the hauler is rescheduled for the following Friday only. Anything beyond the three items or the weight limit waits for the next week or goes to the city drop-off on the first and third Saturday of the month.Official guidance

Where is the McDonough bulk item drop-off?

The city drop-off is at 560 Macon Street, the site the city calls the old Mercer Building. It opens on the first and third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closes for lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., and it is for City of McDonough residential customers only. The city calendar notes the Saturdays the site is closed and states that the city may close the drop-off at any time during the published days or hours.Official guidance

Where do hard-to-recycle items go in McDonough?

Henry County sends them to CHaRM, the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials, and lists paint, household chemicals, tires, televisions and monitors, mattresses, propane tanks, thermometers, smoke detectors, bulbs, CFL bulbs and toilets among them. CHaRM is at 1110 Hill St SE in Atlanta, takes items by appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., accepts no cash and refuses propane tanks and alkaline and car batteries, so the item has to be checked before the trip.Official guidance
