Where to donate books in Sacramento

Sacramento Public Library accepts books in good condition at most branches during open hours, subject to available space. Bring small boxes or bags you can carry inside. For a large collection, check the Friends warehouse arrangements before loading your vehicle.

Sort before you travel

Remove water-damaged, mildewed, badly worn or heavily marked books. Most donations support Friends book sales, so donating does not guarantee a place on the library shelf.

Plan for carrying and quantity

Call the receiving branch to confirm it has room. Library staff do not pick up from homes and generally cannot carry boxes from your vehicle. Ask the Friends warehouse about a larger collection and its current receiving hours.

When Dropcurb helps

If your Sacramento book clear-out leaves accepted boxes to remove, Dropcurb handles loading and transport once they are outside and accessible. Pack books in manageable boxes and count each filled box, not each book. Check heavy or oversized boxes with us first. Choose the charity directly when your goal is donation; standard pickup does not promise a donation destination.
