Scheduled large item pickup

Households with furniture, mattresses, bicycles or appliances that will not fit in regular refuse service.

Cost & conditions
From $10 for published charge per stop for ten or fewer items, rising above ten items, with separate per item charges for appliances, computers and televisions. Cedar Falls residents with an active Cedar Falls refuse account. Charges are added to the CFU bill.
Arrange it
Call Public Works at (319) 273-8629 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday to schedule the stop, then place items curbside after 8 p.m. the night before the scheduled collection.

Large items only, and not a garbage service. No more than 20 items per stop. Bagged garbage, yard waste, dirt, hazardous waste, bricks, rocks, concrete, sand and construction, demolition or remodeling materials cannot be picked up, and appliances, computers and televisions each add their own charge.

From $7 for published minimum charge for loads below the stated weight thresholds, alongside per bag, per ton and per appliance rates published on the same page. Scrap metal carries no charge. Open to the public during posted hours. The separate compost site is for Cedar Falls residents only.
Arrange it
Bring material to 1524 State Street, next to the Cedar Falls Recycling Center, during posted hours. The last load is taken at 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, and the station began accepting solid waste on Mondays starting June 1, 2026.

Lead-acid batteries, asbestos, fertilizers, paint, antifreeze, hazardous waste, concrete, rock, dirt and railroad ties are not accepted. Large batteries such as car or power wheel batteries are refused, and loose insulation is refused because it must be bagged.

Scrap metal is free, rechargeable batteries go in the Call 2 Recycle boxes in the vestibule, and non-contaminated used engine oil and filters are free, while lead-acid batteries, asbestos, fertilizers, paint, antifreeze, hazardous waste, concrete, rock, dirt and railroad ties are refused.
