The project is done. Get your space back.

The new bathroom is ready, but the old vanity is still outside. A replaced door is taking up space you need. Put those leftover items on a pickup plan, with the price settled and updates through the final haul-away.

Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

  1. Arrange the removal work

Have the fixture safely detached and any plumbing or electrical connections handled by an appropriate professional. We do not remove installed fixtures or perform demolition.

  2. Keep the booked items separate

Have the fixtures empty and ready at ground level. Keep them apart from rubble, loose renovation materials, tools and anything you want to keep.

  3. Show the outdoor handoff

Use a permitted outdoor spot with a clear path. Add a location photo and notes on your order page so the right entrance and the right items are easy to identify.

Construction and demolition debris

Special rules apply

The city runs no curbside construction route, and the Metro Waste Authority recycles sorted project material at Metro Park East Landfill: rubble, concrete, clean wood and metal loads each go in at no charge per ton while a commingled load carries the authority's published C&D rate, so the load has to be sorted before it leaves the property.

City cost & eligibility
The authority publishes an accepted material table rather than a household fee: rubble, concrete, clean wood and metal are taken at no charge per ton and a commingled load is charged at the authority's published C&D rate, which it keeps on its Metro Park East Landfill rates page, so confirm the current rate and the sort rules with the authority on 515.244.0021 before the material is hauled.
When & how
Take the separated load to the Metro Park East Landfill during its published hours, or arrange the load with a private container company. Confirm the rate and the load rules with the Metro Waste Authority first.
Get it ready
Keep construction material out of the waste cart and off any stickered large item pile. Sort clean rubble, concrete, unpainted wood and metal into their own loads rather than mixing them, because the authority refuses a mixed load in those streams and charges a commingled load instead. Keep treated, painted or stained wood, plywood, particle board, shingles, cardboard, plastic and garbage out of the clean streams, and remember that concrete has a size restriction with slabs not allowed.

With a new purchase

Arrange construction or refused loads privately

A household with construction and demolition debris or another load the city and the authority do not clearly accept.

Cost & conditions
The city publishes no construction rate. The Metro Waste Authority takes sorted rubble, concrete, clean wood and metal at no charge per ton and charges a commingled load at its published C&D rate, so confirm the rate and the sort rules with the authority on 515.244.0021 or take a quote from a private container company.
Arrange it
Contact a private container company or the Metro Waste Authority and confirm the receiving site, the acceptance rules and the price.

Nothing in this category qualifies automatically for the sticker programme, and hazardous material still goes to the authority's hazardous waste drop-off.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Des Moines keeps its bulky material in the city system rather than pushing it to a private hauler. Anything that will not fit the waste cart needs a pink Large Item sticker, an appliance needs seven of them, extra items, bags or boxes of trash need a pink Extra Trash sticker once the cart is full, and bulk tree limbs, branch bundles and holiday trees need a green Compost It! sticker; the stickers are sold at seven addresses around the city at the published prices, and the large item collection is scheduled by calling (515) 283-4950. For a bigger load there is no charge at all: the SCRUB events accept large trash items, bulk yard waste and more free of charge during the monthly events from March through November, and the city's own event photograph places a SCRUB drop-off at the Metro Central Transfer Station on Delaware Avenue. Yard material has its own rules when the city runs a vegetative debris collection, with limbs cut to ten feet or less, a maximum diameter of twenty-four inches and piles kept three feet from utilities, mailboxes and trees. Household chemicals go to the Metro Waste Authority's hazardous waste drop-off, open Tuesday to Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM and Saturday from 8 AM to noon and closed on major holidays, where bagged compost is taken at the same window. Electronics have to be confirmed, because the authority publishes a drop-off point and its accepted items list rather than a device list with prices, while a project load goes to the Metro Park East Landfill, where sorted rubble, concrete, clean wood and metal are taken at no charge per ton and a commingled load carries the authority's published C&D rate, so a Des Moines household confirms the device, the sort rules and the current rate with the authority rather than assuming acceptance. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Des Moines.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Des Moines?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Des Moines?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Who takes construction debris in Des Moines?

The city publishes no curbside construction route, so a project load goes to the Metro Waste Authority, which recycles separated rubble, concrete, clean wood and metal at Metro Park East Landfill at no charge per ton and charges a commingled load at its published C&D rate. A mixed load is refused in the clean streams, concrete has a size restriction with slabs not allowed, and treated or painted wood, plywood, particle board, shingles, cardboard, plastic and garbage stay out of them, so confirm the sort rules and the current rate with the authority on 515.244.0021 before hauling. Material that will not fit the cart does not qualify for the pink sticker programme by default, so do not treat it as a large item.Official guidance
