Room for what comes next

Your space can have a new purpose.

A home office. Room for a guest. A little more floor to enjoy. When an old machine is in the way, a clear pickup plan makes the next step easier.

The room is changing.

Book the equipment you are ready to let go of, whether it is one exercise bike or several machines. See the total before making the plan.

A replacement is coming.

Check whether your retailer includes removal. If the old treadmill is still your responsibility, give it a pickup day of its own.

It is not making the move.

Settle the price online, arrange to have it outside, and follow the pickup through text updates and completion photos. One less thing to coordinate before the keys change hands.

Match the machine

The right choice covers the right equipment.

Choose by the type of equipment. A brand name does not mean a different item, but a walking pad and a full treadmill do.

Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?

Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.

An exercise bike, elliptical or rower

Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.

Weights, racks and benches

Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Ready for pickup

Plan the move outside before pickup day.

A machine can be too heavy or awkward for a solo move. Arrange suitable help for indoor carrying, stairs or any dismantling needed to reach the outdoor pickup spot.

A pickup day is not an exact arrival window. Tell us before booking about a shared loading area, restricted outdoor access or equipment whose size or setup you are unsure how to select.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named in the heavy trash rules or the fee ordinance, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed with Priority before it goes to the curb even though it is a bulky household item.

City cost & eligibility
No Lawrence page names exercise equipment or publishes a rate for it, so call Priority at 855-927-8365 or 586-228-1200 and confirm whether the machine counts inside the three item allowance or is charged as an additional item.
When & how
Call Priority to confirm the machine, then set it out during the published heavy trash week if it counts inside the allowance, or pay and schedule it at least 48 hours ahead if it does not.
Get it ready
Describe the machine and its heaviest piece when calling, take it apart as far as it comes apart so two people can handle it, and keep the console or battery pack with any electronic material.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Two heavy trash weeks carry three items each

Lawrence collects heavy trash in the first full week of May and the first full week of October, with the 2026 weeks published as May 4 to 8 and October 5 to 9. Each property may place three items at the curb in the spring and three more in the fall at no additional cost, which the city ordinance matches by allowing up to three bulky items during the Board of Works cleaning events. Anything beyond the three is paid for and scheduled with Priority Waste at 855-927-8365 or 586-228-1200 at least 48 hours before it goes out.

The exclusions are printed and the list is open

The city excludes building refuse, construction debris, bricks and concrete blocks from curbside collection, and it states that the list is not limited to those examples while offering to walk through any other exclusions when a bulky collection is scheduled. That is the reason a project load needs a private container rather than a heavy trash pile, and the reason to call Priority at 855-927-8365 or 586-228-1200 about any item that is hard to classify.

What the sanitation account costs and what an overage tag covers

The base solid waste and recycling fee is a published monthly amount for a household with one trash and one recycling container, and it rises each January 2. A monthly senior discount is available to one and two person households where someone is 65 or older and water use stays at or under 7,500 gallons a month, and those households cannot rent extra containers. An extra container carries a monthly charge with a ceiling of two trash and two recycling containers, a replacement container carries its own published charge, and an overage tag for a bag or box that does not fit the container is bought at the Department of Public Works. Each amount is listed in the published fee schedule and in the charge records here.

Cart rules for the weekly service

Recycling goes into the provided 95 gallon recycling cart and the city lists clean plastic bottles and containers marked 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7, clean food and beverage cans or cartons, paper, clean flattened cardboard and paperboard, and clear or coloured glass bottles. A former cart cannot be used, and an additional container is requested through the city form. Trash that will not fit the container is handled with an overage tag rather than a loose pile, and the city's Department of Public Works at 9001 East 59th Street sells them.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Lawrence runs its disposal as curbside service rather than a drop-off, and the city publishes no transfer station, landfill or household hazardous waste site. The weekly carts go out under the Priority Waste contract, with recycling limited to the provided 95 gallon cart and the accepted list of plastic bottles and containers marked 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7, cans, cartons, paper, cardboard and glass. Trash that will not fit the container is handled with an overage tag from the Department of Public Works rather than a loose pile at the curb. Twice a year, in the first full week of May and the first full week of October, heavy trash weeks let each property put three bulky items out at no additional cost, and anything beyond that is paid for and scheduled with Priority Waste at 855-927-8365 or 586-228-1200 at least 48 hours in advance, at the published per item rate. Construction material is not part of any of it: building refuse, construction debris, bricks and concrete blocks are excluded from curbside collection, the city says the exclusion list is not limited to those examples, and no municipal rate or drop-off is published for a project load, so that work goes to a private container or hauling company. Will you dismantle my treadmill or carry it out of the basement?

Dropcurb pickup starts outside. Arrange indoor carrying, stairs and any dismantling needed to get your equipment out before pickup. Check the moving instructions for your exact model and arrange suitable help. We load and haul away the equipment from an accessible outdoor spot.
