Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Construction and demolition debris

Special rules apply

Malden's trash, recycling, yard waste and hazardous waste pages publish no collection and no drop-off for construction or demolition material, and the recycling flyer puts wood and building material on the list the cart refuses. A renovation load therefore has no city route on the pages that could be retained for this check.

City cost & eligibility
Because the city publishes no construction debris program, there is no city rate. Confirm whether the Department of Public Works has any current option at 781-397-7160, and otherwise ask a private container company for a quoted price.
When & how
There is no published city collection day for this material. Ask the Department of Public Works during business hours, or arrange a private container, which is delivered and collected on the hauling company's own schedule.
Get it ready
Keep wood, roofing, drywall, tile and rubble out of the barrel set out and out of any blue pay-as-you-throw bag, and confirm the receiving company's list before loading a container, because paint, treated material and asbestos usually need a separate route.

Trash goes out in a covered barrel with a valid bag or trash tag

Trash has to sit in a lidded barrel with the lid completely closed and be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the pickup day. Each bag is either a blue pay-as-you-throw bag from the city or, in a city black barrel carrying the current year trash tag, a standard store-bought bag of 13 gallon or larger with no loose trash, a lid that closes and no more than 35 pounds in the barrel. The city is running a tagging and education period on barrels that do not meet the rules, and fines can follow once that period ends.

City of Malden Department of Public Works

Look the item up in the city's Waste Wizard

A household with a bulk item, a white good, a piece of furniture or an exercise machine that is too large for the weekly barrel.

Cost & conditions
The city publishes no price for these items. The Waste Wizard gives the route, and the Department of Public Works confirms any charge at 781-397-7160.
Arrange it
Search the item in the Waste Wizard, then call the Department of Public Works during its Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. hours to arrange the collection day.

The normal weekly route takes only bagged trash inside a lidded barrel, so an item that is not confirmed with the city is left at the curb.

With a new purchase

Order a private container for a renovation load

A household or contractor with construction, demolition or remodeling debris that has no published city route in Malden.

Cost & conditions
There is no city rate because the city publishes no construction debris program. The container company quotes its own price for the box and the disposal, which has to be confirmed before ordering.
Arrange it
Ask the Department of Public Works whether any current option exists, and otherwise contact a licensed container or hauling company to deliver and collect the box.

Wood and building material are refused in the blue recycling cart and cannot go in a pay-as-you-throw bag with the trash, so the load has to leave on a private route.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Malden's own routes are the weekly curbside pickup and the DPW Yard at 356 Commercial Street. Yard waste can be dropped at the yard on Saturdays, but the city alert says the yard is closed to dumping Monday through Friday for the Malden River Works construction period and that only yard waste may be dropped on Saturdays, so the yard waste page and the alert publish different Saturday windows and the window is worth confirming by phone. Electronics are refused in the blue recycling cart and the city's flyer points them to the yard for electronic waste recycling, which happens on the designated household hazardous waste collection days where the published fee list prices cathode ray tubes, tires, batteries, oil and paint by item or volume and takes cash only. At the time of this check the city page showed no upcoming hazardous waste day scheduled. Anything the weekly barrel cannot take, such as a bulk item, a white good, furniture or an exercise machine, is an exception the city resolves through its Waste Wizard lookup and its Department of Public Works number, and a mattress or box spring has to go to an authorized vendor that the city lists. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Malden.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Malden?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Malden?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Does Malden collect construction debris?

No city construction or demolition collection is published on the trash, recycling, yard waste or hazardous waste pages, and the recycling flyer refuses wood and building material in the blue cart. Confirm with the Department of Public Works at 781-397-7160 whether any option exists, and otherwise a private container company quotes the load.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Malden?

The City of Malden Department of Public Works runs weekly trash and recycling collection for residential buildings of six units or less, and buildings with more than six units and commercial properties have to arrange private pickup. Qualifying homes get one free trash barrel and one free recycling barrel, and the department answers at 781-397-7160 at 356 Commercial Street.Official guidance

What do I need to set trash out in Malden?

A lidded barrel with the lid fully closed, at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day, with every bag either a blue pay-as-you-throw bag or a standard bag inside a city black barrel carrying the current year trash tag. The tag is good on the 35 gallon city cart only, asks for bags of 13 gallon or larger, and caps the load at 35 pounds, and the city is running a tagging and education period on barrels that do not comply.Official guidance
