The old setup can go

You’ve moved on. Your old electronics haven’t.

The new laptop is working. The old monitor, tower and printer are still taking up a corner. Give the equipment you no longer use a pickup day, with the price settled before anyone arrives.

Choose the right items

One computer setup can be several items.

A separate monitor and tower count separately. Small devices and cables have their own box option. Choose what is actually leaving so your price matches the pickup.

Monitor, desktop or laptop.

Choose Computer monitor for each separate display. Desktop computer covers one tower or one all-in-one computer. A laptop is its own item. Add only the devices going.

Printer or office copier.

A printer with a built-in scanner belongs under Printer. A floor-standing copy machine belongs under Office copier. The shape matters more than the brand.

A box of smaller electronics.

Use Box of electronics for small devices, cables and chargers together in one box. For a large or heavy box, unusual contents or separate batteries, send a photo and confirm the fit before booking.

Televisions & electronics

Special rules apply

Televisions are on the contractor's bulky item list, but the county excludes electronics from its hazardous waste events and its recycling sites refuse televisions, computers and monitors.

City cost & eligibility
Television acceptance sits with the contractor and is branch specific with no published price, so confirm the charge before the pickup. County drop-off sites take electronics at no charge but only for the materials on their list.
When & how
Book a bulky pickup for the television, or check a take-back retailer for newer devices during store hours.
Get it ready
Keep televisions, computers and monitors out of the county recycling drop-off bins and out of the household hazardous waste events, which state that electronics are not accepted.

Use the county events only for what they accept

Household hazardous waste events are for Grand Traverse County residents, require an appointment, and take up to 150 pounds at no charge with a per-pound fee above that. Electronics and appliances are not accepted there, and tires only come in on specific dates.

County drop-off sites

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self-hauling around Traverse City means two county sites and one contractor facility. Yard material and untreated wood go to the county brush site on North Keystone Road for a published per-yard price, sorted recyclables go to the county drop-off sites including the one at 2600 Lafranier, and the contractor transfer station on Hughes Drive handles loads the branch accepts. Problem waste waits for a county household hazardous waste event, which requires an appointment. Drop-off loads handled by the city's contracted hauler.

This is a contractor facility rather than a municipal site, so material acceptance and any gate charge are set by GFL. Confirm the load before you drive over, and keep fuel, chemicals, batteries and paint out.

Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to noon, closed Sunday.

No public gate rate is published for this facility, so confirm the charge for your load with the branch at 231.943.8088.
