Get it ready
Bring the box spring with the mattress if both are leaving the house, because the county counts each piece separately. Keep the bedding clean and dry, wipe the piece down, and leave the frame and headboard behind unless they are part of a booked furniture pickup.
Hennepin County takes material from county households with proof of residency such as a driver's license or utility bill. Stay in your vehicle, keep hazardous waste in sealed containers of five gallons or less and upright in a plastic lined box, and carry the load in the trunk, the truck bed or a trailer. The city does not contract a hauler on your behalf, so the price, the notice period and the preparation rules are the company's own. A hauler may refuse an item that is too heavy to handle or that contains refrigerant or hazardous material.
