Brush, leaves and yard waste

Accepted with preparation

Yard waste is illegal in household garbage. Haulers must offer curbside yard waste collection during the growing season, and Minnetonka Public Works runs a resident drop-off site for brush, leaves and garden material.

City cost & eligibility
The city does not publish a fee for the resident drop-off site, and curbside yard waste is set by each hauler, which may charge extra for it. Confirm the charge with your hauler or the city recreation line before you load.
When & how
Brush runs April 4 to Nov. 21, 2026 and leaves and yard waste run Sept. 19 to Nov. 21, 2026, both on Mondays and Tuesdays 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with extended November dates. Leaves and yard waste are not accepted from May 18 to Sept. 15.
Get it ready
Bring a driver's license, state ID or Minnetonka utility bill, cover the load during transport and take every bag home, including compostable bags. Brush is accepted up to eight feet long with no diameter limit, while leaves, garden material and sticks or branches smaller than one half-inch in diameter belong in the separate leaf area.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Screen the carts and set recycling out on time

Store garbage and recycling carts out of public view except the evening before and the day of collection, and install screening when a cart stays outside a garage. Recycling goes out by 6:30 a.m. on collection day, on the opposite side of the driveway from the garbage cart and at least three feet from other objects, and only what is inside the cart is collected.

Ask the hauler you contract with

Household items that do not fit a cart, when you would rather not drive to a drop-off day or the county facility.

Cost & conditions
The city publishes no citywide large-item pickup and no price for one, so the cost comes from the hauler that serves your address.
Arrange it
Call the licensed hauler for your address: Curbside Waste at 763-504-2872, Republic Services at 952-941-5174, Suburban Waste Services at 952-937-8900, or Waste Management at 952-890-1100.

Not all haulers serve all parts of the city, and large-item service and yard waste charges are set by each company, so confirm acceptance and the price before you set anything out.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Large household items move through the city's two Community Drop-off Days, the Hennepin County drop-off facility at 8100 Jefferson Highway in Brooklyn Park, or the hauler you contract with. Construction material is refused at both the city event and the county facility, so it goes to a roll-off container, a private construction and demolition landfill, or the Maple Grove transfer station. Check each site's current hours, accepted material and prices before you load.
