Keep the mattress dry and set it where the collection crew can reach it without blocking the sidewalk or a driveway. The city publishes no wrapping requirement for bedding in Jackson, but it does ask that items be set out at the curb rather than left in the yard.
The second collection day of the week is bulky item day
Jackson collects household garbage twice a week. The first collection takes household garbage, and the second takes household garbage plus two bulk items and bagged leaves, so the bulky item day comes around every week rather than by appointment.
The regular collection day only changes when it falls on or after one of the five holidays the city observes: New Year's Day, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. When that happens, collection moves to the following collection day.

Household chemicals are refused, construction and demolition material belongs at the city landfill in Byram, and the separate appliance and tire programmes need a phone call before the scheduled Wednesday.
Jackson runs its own rubbish landfill, a Class I site at 6810 I-55 South Frontage Road in Byram. It takes construction and demolition material such as wood and metal, brick, mortar, concrete, stone and asphalt, natural vegetation including tree limbs, stumps and leaves, furniture, plastic, glass, crockery and metal other than containers, sawdust and wood chips, tires and metal appliances, with an appliance needing the motor removed first. Loads are charged by the cubic yard and tires by tire type, and the city provides mulch there free to citizens who bring a container and load it themselves. Household chemicals are handled separately at the Environmental Service Center on University Boulevard, which takes paints, oils, automotive, household and rechargeable batteries, computer and electronic equipment, four foot fluorescent bulbs and pesticides from residents.
