The local disposal guide
New Bern collects trash, recycling, bulky items and leaf and limb waste from city addresses, with bulk piles put out by 6 a.m. on the service day. Electronics, scrap metal and construction debris sit outside that service, so those loads route to Craven County sites instead.

Bulk waste and yard waste are placed at the curb line or right-of-way by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day, in one neat sorted pile away from the trash cart, recycling container, cars, guide wires, trees, fences and power or utility sources. Piles are never placed in the street or on the sidewalk.

Most wood that reaches the city compost yard is ground into mulch that is sold or given away, and the chemicals used to treat, paint or stain wood can remain in it for years. Those chemicals would make the mulch hazardous by contact or leach into soil, so preserved wood is refused.Official guidance
