A clear count. An exact price.

Count the bags and boxes, not everything inside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.

Filled bags and boxes

Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.

Empty cardboard and containers

Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Furniture and other larger items

Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Drop bulky loads at the Chaparral center

Special rules apply

There is no household bulk pickup in Chaparral. The authority states that it does not provide solid waste pickup, so a furniture or clean-out load goes to the Chaparral Collection and Recycling Center on McCombs Road.

City cost & eligibility
From $8.36 for the minimum tip fee per load, with a flat rate option and a per ton rate at the Chaparral transfer station, or the flat rate coupon fee schedule tiers of five, ten or fifteen dollars by load size, with the payment punch cards sold in fifteen, thirty or sixty dollar denominations. Residents and commercial businesses bringing their own load. Coupons are requested by mail from the Doña Ana County Utilities Department or billed to an existing wastewater account, so confirm which schedule the gate applies before loading.
When & how
Open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the last load accepted at 4:45 on weekdays and 3:45 on weekends.
Get it ready
Cover the load, because an untarped or unsecured load may carry an extra charge. Sort the material so the counter can price it, keep electronics, green waste and scrap metal separate from household trash, and remember that a spring cleaning project, furniture, auto parts, concrete, rock or dirt load is what the published examples put in the largest coupon tier.

Appliances and white goods

Special rules apply

An appliance travels in the waste stream to the center rather than being collected at home, and the authority prices refrigerant removal per unit instead of treating it as free.

City cost & eligibility
$37.12 per appliance for refrigerant removal on the authority rate schedule. Charged at the authority scale or counter when the unit needs its refrigerant removed, on top of the load charge for the material delivered.
When & how
Bring the unit to the Chaparral center during open hours, or confirm with the authority on 575-528-3800 which site performs refrigerant removal before loading.
Get it ready
Empty the appliance and keep it out of the household recycling stream. Ask about refrigerant removal when you arrive or before the trip, because the rate schedule publishes the charge without naming the site, and a unit that still holds refrigerant should not simply be dropped as scrap.

Electronics, televisions and monitors

Accepted with preparation

Electronic waste is one of the center services. Small electronic scrap is free on the rate schedule, and a television or monitor carries its own charge up to three per visit.

City cost & eligibility
$9.59 each television or monitor up to three, with small electronic scrap accepted at no charge. Charged at the counter for the screens, with the e-waste drop off listed among the services at the county collection centers.
When & how
Bring the device to the Chaparral center between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on a weekday or 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the weekend, before the last load cut off.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from a computer, tablet or phone before handover, and keep screens out of the household trash and the recycling stream. Count the screens in the load so the counter can apply the per item charge.

Scrap metal and tires

Accepted with preparation

Scrap metal recycling is one of the services at the collection centers, and tires are accepted at the same counter with a per tire or per ton charge.

City cost & eligibility
$4.33 each tire, with tires over eighteen inches charged at the higher published rate and bulk tires priced by the ton. Charged at the counter, with the coupon schedule showing a five dollar minimum for up to four tires.
When & how
Bring the metal and tires to the Chaparral center during open hours, before the last load cut off.
Get it ready
Keep metal separate from household trash and from construction material so it can be handled as its own stream, and count the tires so the counter can price them. Do not leave a tire or metal load uncovered on the way, because an untarped load may carry an extra charge.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Load the vehicle, because there is no curbside pickup

The authority states that it does not provide solid waste pick up, so a bulky item has to be carried to the Chaparral center rather than set out at the curb. Sort the load before leaving, keep electronics, green waste and scrap metal separate from household trash, and cover the load in case the counter applies an untarped load charge.

Arrive before the last load cut off

The center opens Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the last load is accepted at 4:45 on a weekday and 3:45 at the weekend, so a late trip can be turned away at the gate. The center is open seven days a week, which gives a household the weekend option the old weekday only schedule did not.

Expect a gate charge and confirm which schedule applies

The authority publishes two fee schedules. The collection center page sets flat rate coupon fees by load size and sells the payment punch cards in fixed denominations, while the rate page effective July 1 2026 lists a minimum tip fee, a flat rate and a per ton rate at the Chaparral station, plus per item charges for tires, televisions and monitors and refrigerant removal. Confirm which schedule the gate applies and the amount at the counter or on 575-528-3800.

South Central Solid Waste Authority (SCSWA), the Doña Ana County solid waste authority

Take the load to the Chaparral Collection and Recycling Center

A Chaparral household with furniture, a clean-out load, an appliance, electronics, scrap metal or tires that it can carry to the center.

Cost & conditions
From $8.36 for the minimum tip fee per load, with the flat rate coupon fee schedule tiers of five, ten and fifteen dollars by load size and punch cards sold in fifteen, thirty or sixty dollar denominations and per item charges for tires, televisions and monitors and refrigerant removal. Residents and commercial businesses bringing their own load. Coupons are requested by mail from the Doña Ana County Utilities Department or billed to an existing wastewater account.
Arrange it
Drive to 180 McCombs Road in Chaparral, arrive before the last load cut off, and tell the counter what is in the load so each stream is priced correctly.

The center is a drop off only, because the authority provides no household pickup, and the two published fee schedules do not describe the same counter in the same way, so the gate charge is confirmed rather than assumed.

Open the Chaparral center page

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul is the only local route in Chaparral. The authority's own page states that SCSWA does not provide solid waste pickup, so a household carries its load to the Chaparral Transfer Station and Recycling Center at 180 McCombs Road, which opens seven days a week with the last load accepted at 4:45 on a weekday and 3:45 at the weekend. The counter takes household trash, recycling, green and yard waste, electronic waste and scrap metal, and tires are priced at the same window. Two published schedules apply to the same counter, a flat rate coupon fee schedule that prices a load by its size and a July 2026 rate schedule with a minimum tip fee, a flat rate, a per ton rate at this station and per item charges for tires, screens and refrigerant removal, so the charge is confirmed on arrival or by phone. A household that cannot haul its own load has no authority pickup to fall back on and has to arrange a private hauler. Chaparral Transfer Station and Recycling Center

SCSWA Chaparral Transfer Station and Recycling Center

180 McCombs Road, Chaparral, NM 88081

Household trash, household recycling, green and yard waste, electronic waste, and scrap metal recycling, with tires accepted at the same counter.

This is a drop off site rather than a collection service, because SCSWA states that it does not provide solid waste pickup. Loads have to be covered to avoid an untarped load charge, and the two published fee schedules differ, so the counter pricing is confirmed on arrival or by phone beforehand. Refrigerant removal is charged per unit and the rate page does not say whether this site performs it.

Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the last load accepted at 4:45 on weekdays and 3:45 at the weekend. Phone 575-528-3800.

From $8.36 for the minimum tip fee per load, with a flat rate option, a per ton rate at this station and per item charges for tires, televisions and monitors and refrigerant removal, alongside the collection center flat rate coupon fee schedule tiers, whose punch cards are sold in fifteen, thirty or sixty dollar denominations. Residents and commercial businesses delivering their own load, with coupons available by mail from the county utilities department or billed to an existing wastewater account.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Chaparral.

How much does bulk junk removal cost in Chaparral?

A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?

No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.

Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?

Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.

Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?

Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.

Will anyone pick up bulky items in Chaparral?

The authority does not provide household pickup: its own page states that SCSWA does not provide solid waste pick up services, and that residents and businesses bring their trash and recycling to a collection center. A bulky load therefore goes to the Chaparral center on McCombs Road, and a household that cannot haul its own load has to arrange a private hauler.Official guidance

How does a refrigerator go to the Chaparral center?

It arrives with a resident or business load, because the authority does not collect from homes, and the rate schedule charges refrigerant removal per unit rather than including it free. Confirm on 575-528-3800 whether the Chaparral center performs the removal or whether the unit has to go to another authority site.Official guidance

Is electronic waste accepted at the Chaparral center?

Yes. E-waste drop off is one of the services listed for the county collection centers, small electronic scrap is free on the authority rate schedule, and a television or monitor is charged per screen with a limit of three in the published line. Bring the device during open hours and wipe the data first.Official guidance

Are scrap metal and tires accepted in Chaparral?

Yes. Scrap metal recycling is listed among the services at the county collection centers, and the rate schedule prices tires per tire with a higher rate above eighteen inches and a per ton rate for bulk loads. The coupon schedule prices up to four tires at its minimum.Official guidance

How do bulky items leave a Chaparral household?

By vehicle, because the authority does not provide household pickup. A furniture or clean-out load goes to the Chaparral Transfer Station and Recycling Center on McCombs Road during open hours, with the load covered and sorted, and the counter charges by load size or by weight depending on which published schedule applies.Official guidance

What does the Chaparral center accept?

Household trash, household recycling, green and yard waste, electronic waste and scrap metal recycling, with tires priced at the same counter. Small electronic scrap is free on the rate schedule, a television or monitor is charged per screen up to three, and tires are charged each or by the ton, with up to four tires covered at the coupon schedule minimum.Official guidance
