Mattresses and box springs ride the weekly large item allowance, but they will not be collected unless they are wrapped in plastic and securely sealed first. The recycling centre refuses mattresses, so the wrapped kerbside set-out is the published route.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. City of Canton residences, within the two large items a week that may be set out on the regular collection day at no additional charge, provided the bedding is wrapped in plastic and sealed.
When & how
Put the wrapped mattress or box spring at the collection site no earlier than noon the day before and no later than 6 a.m. on your regular collection day.
Get it ready
Wrap the whole mattress or box spring in plastic and seal it, because unwrapped bedding is not collected. Keep it clear of the cart so the crew can reach both, and note that the recycling centre does not accept mattresses, so a self-haul path means a private drop-off the district names.
Waste goes to the collection site no earlier than noon the day before pickup and no later than 6 a.m. on the collection day, because crews start at 6 a.m. and material set out later may be missed. Empty carts and cans come back in before 8 a.m. the day after collection.
Two large items a week, such as furniture, may be set out on the regular collection day at no additional charge. Mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture have to be wrapped in plastic and sealed, unwrapped upholstered furniture draws a citation, and carpet has to be cut to four feet and rolled and tied.

No charge. City of Canton residences, which receive one weekly collection and may set out two large items a week at no additional charge, provided mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture are wrapped and sealed.
Arrange it
Place the items at the collection site between noon the day before and 6 a.m. on the regular collection day, wrapped, sealed and clear of the cart.
Unwrapped upholstered furniture can draw a citation, construction material and tires are excluded, and appliances, electronics and hazardous products are routed to the Recycle Center instead.
Self haul in Canton means the City of Canton Recycle Center at 742 Schroyer Avenue SW, and it runs on appointments. The centre is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a lunch closure, visitors bring identification, and the accepted list covers appliances and scrap metal, ferrous and non ferrous metals, televisions of every type, residentially generated tires, household hazardous waste, used motor oil and antifreeze, recyclables, and small propane or butane canisters. Freon stays in an appliance and the unit just has to be empty, because the centre can refuse a loaded one. Tires are free but limited to ten per person per year, with no more than ten transported at once. The centre refuses furniture, carpet, mattresses, building materials, clothing, plastic bags, trash and yard waste, so those items either go out with the weekly collection or, for construction loads, through a rented container arranged on 330-489-3020.
