Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, monitors and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics do not go at the Kettering curb, because the city names them with hazardous material that must stay out of the trash and recycling. Montgomery County takes them free from county residents at the transfer and recycling facility in Moraine, which accepts televisions, monitors, computers, microwaves and small countertop appliances.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Electronics recycling is free to all Montgomery County residents at the county transfer and recycling facility, which requires proof of residency. Kettering residents are county residents, so there is no per item charge.
When & how
Take the items to the Montgomery County transfer and recycling facility at 1001 Encrete Lane in Moraine, open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and closed Sunday, with the gates closing promptly at the posted time.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from computers and phones before handover. Keep televisions, monitors and computers out of the trash cart and the recycling cart, since the city lists electronics with the material that must not go in either, and keep large appliances with refrigerant separate because the electronics drop-off refuses them.

Bulk items and the weekly allowance

Accepted with preparation

Kettering does not have an appointment system for bulk waste. Rumpke collects up to three additional items each week on the regular service day, and since January 2025 those three items include garbage bags and bundled brush as well as appliances, mattresses and furniture.

City cost & eligibility
The service is billed quarterly rather than per item, and the three weekly extra items come with the contract. Effective July 1, 2026 the standard curbside rate is $53.22 per quarter, about $17.74 a month; the houseside carryout rate is $122.85 per quarter; the qualified senior curbside rate is $26.70 per quarter; the senior houseside rate is $61.50 per quarter; and an additional trash or recycling cart is $12.00 per quarter. Confirm the current level with Rumpke at 1-800-828-8171.
When & how
Set the extra items beside the cart on the regular service day. Each additional bag counts as one of the three items, a bag must be standard plastic no larger than 35 gallons and 50 pounds, and a weekday holiday on or before the service day delays collection by one day.
Get it ready
Keep the load to three items a week, seal upholstered pieces in plastic, tape glass, remove the tank from a toilet, and tie bundled brush with twine at no more than 4 feet and 50 pounds. Non-Rumpke receptacles are not serviced, so anything outside a Rumpke cart has to be a bag or a bulk item.

Three extra items a week, and nobody has to schedule them

The most unusual thing about waste in Kettering is the absence of an appointment. Rumpke collects up to three additional items each week on the regular service day, and the City states plainly that residents do not need to contact the hauler first. Since January 2025 the three items include garbage bags and bundled brush alongside the classic bulk list of appliances, mattresses, box springs, sofas and large furniture. Each additional trash bag counts as one of the three, and a bag has to be standard plastic no larger than 35 gallons and 50 pounds.

Wrap it, tape it, or certify it, or the truck keeps moving

Three preparation rules decide whether a bulk item is actually collected. An upholstered item, including a sofa, a mattress, a box spring or a dining chair, has to be completely wrapped on all sides in sealable plastic, and the city states that anything not completely sealed will not be serviced. Any glass, such as a mirror, a window or a shower door, has to be taped. An appliance that contains refrigerant has to have that refrigerant removed before pickup with a certificate of removal attached to the unit. A toilet has to go out with the tank separated from the bowl, and a large piece such as a dining hutch or a ping-pong table should be separated or dismantled.

It has to fit the Rumpke cart, and the cart has to go behind the house

All material placed out for collection has to fit inside the Rumpke provided carts or be set out as a bulk item, and every service level has to use those carts. Carts come in 95, 65 and 35 gallon sizes, and an additional trash or recycling cart carries its own quarterly charge. Between collections the ordinance requires a cart to be kept in a garage or building if possible, and on the side or at the rear of the property if it is stored outside. Carts may not sit at the curb, on the driveway or sidewalk, or at the front of the property.

Rumpke Waste & Recycling under contract with the City of Kettering, with the Montgomery County Solid Waste District

Put the bulk items out on the regular Rumpke service day

A household with a mattress, box spring, sofa, large furniture item, appliance without refrigerant, extra bags or a bundle of brush.

Cost & conditions
The service is billed quarterly rather than per item and the three weekly extra items carry no additional charge. Effective July 1, 2026 the standard curbside rate is $53.22 per quarter, the houseside carryout rate is $122.85 per quarter, the qualified senior curbside rate is $26.70 per quarter, and an additional cart is $12.00 per quarter. Confirm the account level with Rumpke at 1-800-828-8171.
Arrange it
Set the items beside the cart on the regular weekly service day with no call and no appointment, up to three items a week. A holiday falling on a weekday on or before the service day delays collection by one day, and a weekend holiday does not.

Upholstered items have to be sealed in plastic on all sides, glass has to be taped, a toilet needs its tank separated, large pieces should be dismantled, and a refrigerant appliance needs a technician's removal certificate attached before it will be taken. Non-Rumpke receptacles are not serviced, and bags must be standard plastic no larger than 35 gallons and 50 pounds.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Brush and limbs can go to the Yard Debris Center at 1840 Woodman Center Dr. free to Kettering residents and taxpayers, but only brush, limbs, trimmings and Christmas trees no longer than 6 feet and 6 inches across, since grass clippings, stumps, sod, dirt, rocks, concrete and building materials are refused there. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Kettering.

How much does TV removal cost in Kettering?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Kettering?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.
