Curbside, it is a large item like any appliance, but the city requires a sticker showing a certified technician removed the Freon plus the Rumpke Refrigerant Recovery Statement before it can be collected. At the county, the Friday electronics drop-off takes refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning units and dehumidifiers with the Freon left intact for a per unit charge that has to be confirmed.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Middletown households on the city contract for the curbside route, where the cooling unit uses the one included large item once the Freon removal sticker and Rumpke Refrigerant Recovery Statement are attached. The county drop-off routes the same units to a per unit charge that the flyer lists as a range and asks residents to confirm.

Household trash goes to the curb in bags or containers with lids or wire bottoms, at no more than 33 gallons and 70 pounds each, and the recycling rides in its own container on the same day every other week.
