Mattresses are named in the weekly bulk rules, where they have to be bagged or wrapped, and the Hoffman Road Landfill also accepts them in a bulky load.

The weekly allowance carries no separate published charge while the landfill prices a bulky load by the cubic yard, and a mattress often weighs more than the 40 pound item limit, so confirm the route at 419-936-2511 or 419-936-3077.

Bag or wrap the mattress as the city requires, keep it out of the alley and off a side street, and keep the set dry until collection or the landfill trip.
Since January 5, 2026 residents can place up to five bulk items at the curb each week with the regularly scheduled trash pickup, each item must weigh under 40 pounds, and the weekly allowance replaced the monthly scheduled bulk pickup, so there is no call to Republic Services and no alley or side street pickup.
Loose trash has to be bagged, branches, wood and rugs have to be tied in a bundle no larger than 3 feet by 4 feet, nails and screws in wood items have to be removed or pounded flat, and mattresses have to be bagged or wrapped before they go to the curb.
The Hoffman Road Landfill accepts only cash, requires proof of Toledo or Lucas County residency, inspects and measures every load, gives no refunds, does not permit entry from Matzinger or Schwartz Road, expects residents to unload their own vehicles, and refuses yard waste, chemicals, liquid waste, paint, oil, freon items, asbestos, mercury, medical waste, flammable material, propane tanks and hazardous material.

Arrange it
Place up to five items under 40 pounds each at the curb next to the bins on the normal trash collection day, with mattresses bagged or wrapped and branches, wood or rugs tied in a bundle no larger than 3 feet by 4 feet.
There is no alley or side street pickup, loose debris and anything over 40 pounds are refused, tires, hazardous waste, gas, paint, liquids, medical waste, major car parts and commercial construction material are refused, and anything left that cannot be collected may draw a fine.
