Mattresses have their own published rule at the Transfer Station: a Norman household may bring one mattress or a mattress and box spring set free each day, and each additional piece carries a charge. The cleanup day and the bulky pickup are the other two routes.

When & how
Take the piece to the Transfer Station at 3901 Chautauqua Avenue on a weekday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or a Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., or use the cleanup day or the booked bulky pickup instead.
Get it ready
Count the box spring with the mattress as one set, because the free allowance covers a mattress or a set rather than two separate pieces, and keep the piece dry and out of the polycart. Bring the current utility bill for the residential rate or the free allowance.
The citywide cleanup runs once in the fall and once in the spring, with items curbside by 7 a.m. on the household's own polycart day and no earlier than one week before it. The cleanup refuses yard waste of any kind, remodeling and demolition debris, junk cars, and hazardous waste such as tires, batteries and paints, polycarts, wagons and wheelbarrows cannot be used as containers, and a Freon item needs a certified technician's tag.
