Mattresses go to the free recycling events, not the garbage
The Mattress Recycling Council runs free mattress recycling at the Columbia County Transfer Station on March 14, June 13, September 12 and November 14 from 8 a.m. to noon. Mattresses including foam, and box springs that are stationary or adjustable, are accepted in any size or condition up to five units per county resident, and toppers, pads, air mattresses, crib mattresses, waterbeds, futons, sofas, pullout couches and furniture are refused, so those pieces need a different route.

Paint is free for residents within the container and daily limits, medical sharps are free in certified containers supplied at the scale house, and used motor oil is free up to five gallons a day. Mattresses recycle free at the Mattress Recycling Council events on March 14, June 13, September 12 and November 14 from 8 a.m. to noon, five units per county resident, and electronics drop free at the transfer station and at the Goodwill in Scappoose.
