One cleanup day a year is the city's answer to large items
West Linn Refuse & Recycling runs a Personalized Clean-up Day that replaced the curbside cleanup day the city's hauler used to hold, and the city publishes the terms. It is available to residential West Linn customers who reside inside city limits with an active residential account in good standing, and the household calls to schedule one pickup within the calendar year, requesting it one week in advance of the regular collection day on 503-557-3900. Items that can go out are appliances, electronics, mattress sets, furniture, metal items, carpet, or up to five refuse cans that the customer has bagged, boxed, bundled or containerized. Participation is one of four published allowances: five bags or bundles of non-putrescible items at up to 60 pounds each, up to two large bulky appliances, two large bulky items, or five items of e-waste, and the flyer adds that additional items may be scheduled for an extra fee.
Four categories are refused, and freon appliances are the important one
The cleanup flyer carries an unacceptable list that shapes the rest of this guide. Construction debris such as concrete, plaster and dirt is refused. Oversized items such as pianos and hot tubs are refused. Tires are refused. And appliances containing freon, such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners, are refused, which separates them from the washers, dryers, water heaters, stoves and other large appliances without freon that the same flyer accepts. The acceptable side also names small appliances such as toaster ovens, electronics including televisions, DVD and VCR players, stereo equipment, speakers, computers, monitors, printers and lamps, and mattresses in all sizes with foundations and box springs, so a household has to sort its load against both lists before calling.
Everything the cleanup day refuses has a published home elsewhere
Electronics do not depend on the annual cleanup day, because Oregon E-Cycles collection sites take up to seven qualifying devices at a time for free recycling under a statewide programme, and paint has its own free route through PaintCare, which recycles paint, primers, stains and sealers at no fee. Household chemicals go to the Metro South Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2001 Washington St in Oregon City, open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day, and the Metro find a recycler tool and 503-234-3000 answer anything unclear. Renovation material goes through the hauler's cleanup containers or a self hauled load to a county transfer station, where the Clackamas County Transfer Station at 19600 SE Canyon Valley Rd in Sandy is open Thursday to Monday with a last load at 4:30 p.m. and the Metro South Transfer Station in Oregon City is open daily, with both closed on the three holidays, and where the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality requires asbestos testing and documentation before construction, demolition or remodeling debris can be disposed of.
