Get it ready
Empty the drawers and remove the cushions and loose parts, keep the piece clear of parked vehicles, and remember that nothing is to be out more than 24 hours before the collection day under the city code. A piece in good condition can be donated to ReStore at 4922 Pittsburgh Ave. rather than scheduled for the curb.
A large item is collected only when the resident schedules it on 814-870-1550 on a weekday between 08:30am and 04:30pm or through the online form for up to three items, and only after the six digit confirmation number arrives. The item goes curbside on the night of the scheduled collection, and setting anything out without a confirmation number or at another time is treated as illegal dumping and draws a citation.
The 24 hour curb window and clearance from vehicles
Regular refuse goes out in bags or cans, and nothing may be placed at the curb more than 24 hours before the collection day under the city code. Keep the pile away from parked vehicles and leave the collection crew enough room to work, because a blocked item is not collected and the city does not treat a missed pile as its own problem.
Carpet in four foot rolls, glass in a labelled box
Carpet has to be cut into four foot sections, rolled and taped or tied, with no more than four rolls out at a time, and small pieces can be bagged for the regular refuse day after an installer removes them. Glass must be taken out of whatever item it was part of, placed in a box labelled GLASS, and any residue left on the ground in front of the home is the resident's to clean up.
