The right sofa. The right price.

Count the sections, not the cushions.

A loveseat, a sleeper and a sectional can look similar in a photo. Match the shape and features so your online price covers what is actually going.

Three structural sectional modules slightly separated, with all cushions remaining on their bases.
This example has three structural sections. The cushions do not add to the count.

A straight sofa or loveseat

Choose Standard sofa for fixed seats with no pull-out bed or reclining mechanism. One whole sofa is one item.

A sectional

Count its structural sections, not the loose cushions. Choose the piece count, then check for a sleeper or reclining feature. One sectional booking covers the configuration you select.

A pull-out bed or reclining seats

Choose Sleeper sofa or Reclining sofa for those mechanisms. A single reclining chair has its own Recliner choice. All sofa types also includes futons and sofas with a chaise.

Couches and household furniture

Accepted with preparation

Sofas, stuffed chairs and furniture are named as oversized items in the city's weekly program, so one piece goes out with the regular collection each week, and the county authority takes a single item under 200 pounds for a flat fee if you would rather haul it.

City cost & eligibility
The weekly oversized item is part of the quarterly residential collection rate, printed as $85.80 a quarter for 2025 with a senior discount for residents 65 and older, and the city publishes no separate fee for one piece. Hauling it to the county authority costs $15 for a single item under 200 pounds, or $100 a ton for a larger load. Confirm the current quarterly rate with the city at (717) 291-4744.
When & how
Set one oversized item out on the normal collection day, after 6 p.m. the evening before, and remember that setting it out limits that week to four trash containers. For a load the weekly program will not take, deliver it to a county authority facility during operating hours.
Get it ready
An oversized item may be no heavier than what two people can lift into a trash truck, so take the piece down if it is heavy. Keep it off the sidewalk in front of the property, and separate it from the bags so the crew can see it belongs to the oversized set-out.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

One oversized item a week, four containers with it

The city's weekly program takes one oversized item per household, which covers sofas, stuffed chairs, furniture, mattress and box spring sets and a roll of carpet no wider than four feet. Setting one out limits that week to four trash containers, the item may be no heavier than what two people can lift into a truck, and everything goes out after 6 p.m. the evening before collection and comes back in by 8 p.m. the day of collection.

Prepare a self-haul load for the county authority

A load that cannot go curbside goes to a county authority facility, where open loads must be tarped, large items must be secured, and the facilities accept only credit or debit cards. Visitors must wear closed-toed sturdy shoes and a high-visibility vest, which can be bought at the scale house for a fee. A single item under 200 pounds is charged a flat fee, household trash is charged by weight with a minimum per visit, and construction and demolition material has its own rate and size limits.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Lancaster residents can keep most bulky material at the curb: the weekly program takes one oversized item per household, which covers sofas, stuffed chairs, furniture, mattress sets and a carpet roll, as long as two people can lift it. White goods such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners are the exception and need the city's monthly program with a tag bought at the Treasury Office. Anything heavier or larger, plus construction material and tires, can be hauled to a county authority facility, where loads are charged by weight or as a single item, open loads must be tarped and payment is by card only. Chemicals, batteries and electronic waste go to the free household hazardous waste facility on Harrisburg Pike. Trash and recyclingResidential disposal ratesHousehold hazardous waste facility

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Couch removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Lancaster.

How much does couch removal cost in Lancaster?

A standard sofa is $79 as the first item and $29 additional. Sectionals, sleepers and reclining sofas have their own choices. Select everything that is going to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can you pick up my couch today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the couch outside and accessible according to your confirmation. We send pickup updates and photos when it is done; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

How do I book a sectional for removal?

Open Sectional in the sofa choices, count its structural sections, and select any sleeper or reclining feature. Count the sections with their own bases, not loose cushions. The matching catalog choice covers one complete sectional of that configuration. Text a photo before booking if you are unsure.

Will you carry my couch out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. Arrange for the sofa to be moved through the apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load and haul it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Arrange any dismantling needed to get it outside beforehand.

Do I need to wait at home for couch pickup?

You do not need to be home when your booked sofa is outside and accessible. Add photos and pickup-location notes to your order so the right pieces are easy to identify. We send updates and completion photos. Confirm any building access restrictions with us before booking.

Will Lancaster take a sofa at the curb?

Yes. The city's weekly program allows each residential unit one oversized item a week, and sofas and stuffed chairs are named as examples. Setting one out limits that week's set-out to four trash containers, and the item may be no heavier than what two people can lift. If it is heavier, take it to a county authority facility instead, where a single item under 200 pounds costs a flat fee.Official guidance

How much trash can go out each week in Lancaster?

Up to six 32 gallon or 30 pound bags per household each week, tied or closed. Setting out the one oversized item the program allows limits that week to four trash containers instead. Containers go out after 6 p.m. the evening before collection and come back in by 8 p.m. the day of collection, and a 96 gallon curb cart from the city's hauler costs an additional $6 a month billed by the hauler.Official guidance
