Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

  1. Arrange any unmounting first.

Dropcurb does not remove TVs from walls or do indoor carrying. Arrange the help you need before pickup day, including the trip down interior stairs or through an elevator.

  2. Choose a permitted outdoor spot.

Use a stable, accessible location with a clear path for loading. Keep the TV separate from anything staying. Check building rules before placing it in a shared pickup area.

  3. Show us the TV that is going.

Add a location photo and access notes after booking. Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. For exposed broken glass or unusual damage, send a photo and check with us before booking.

Televisions and electronic waste

Accepted with preparation

One large electronics item can be collected at the curb each week, but the pickup has to be requested first through the city iRequest system or the service centre, and it is not offered to multi-family buildings of five units or more.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. One large electronics recycling item per week is included for residences on city collection, requested in advance through iRequest or the customer service centre on 1-877-727-3234. The service is not available to residents of multi-family buildings with five or more units.
When & how
Request the pickup through the iRequest website, app or phone line, then set the item out on the collection day for the address. Electronics are not taken by the ordinary trash or recycling collection without the request.
Get it ready
Keep the device out of the recycling container and wipe personal data before it leaves the house. Additional electronics beyond the weekly item go to the Berks County Electronics Recycling Center, iGreen Electronics, Best Buy or a mobile phone carrier.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self hauling in Reading is mostly a drop-off question rather than a transfer station trip, because the city publishes no municipal drop-off yard. Extra or small electronics go to the Berks County Electronics Recycling Center, iGreen Electronics, Best Buy or a mobile phone carrier, alkaline batteries can go in the household trash while rechargeable and lithium batteries must go to a collection point, and fluorescent and compact fluorescent bulbs go to a bulb or county electronics site. Paint, automobile fluids, pesticides, household chemicals and anything labelled caution, flammable, toxic, corrosive, poison, danger, explosive, warning or volatile go to the Berks County Solid Waste Authority collection days, or a private hauler can pick them up at the home. Unwanted medications go to the county medication drop box programme, with a box at the Reading Police Department, and sharps should go back to a doctor or, failing that, into a taped and labelled puncture resistant container in the garbage. Tires are one of the few items the city collects itself, free, up to four per pickup and twelve a household a year, with extra tires sent to the county recycling centre. Anything the city refuses for size or weight leaves through a private hauler. Drop-off recycling and special disposal routes for hazardous waste, electronics, batteries, bulbs, sharps and medicationsSpecial collections: bulky items, electronics pickup by request, tires and leaf collection

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Reading.

How much does TV removal cost in Reading?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Reading?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Do I have to schedule an electronics pickup in Reading?

Yes. One large electronics item is collected at the curb each week, but the city requires a request through the iRequest website or app, or a call to the customer service centre on 1-877-727-3234, and it is not available in multi-family buildings with five or more units.Official guidance
