You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.
A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

A couch, small table, chair or other small furniture item goes out with the regular Upper Darby trash collection, limited to one furniture item for each collection.
City cost & eligibility
The furniture collection is part of the township trash program rather than a separate service, and the township administers a trash fee, so confirm the current terms with Public Works at 610-734-7635 before a large item goes to the line.
When & how
Put the piece on the trash line with the regular household collection on the area's trash day, out before 7 a.m. and with the cans removed by 6 p.m.
Get it ready
One furniture item is allowed for each trash collection, so keep additional pieces for a later collection. Carpet has to be cut to 3 feet, rolled, tied and kept under 40 pounds, and a glass table top or mirror has to be broken down into a sealed box rather than a trash bag.
A mattress or box spring goes out with the regular Upper Darby trash, limited to one each for every collection and required to be sealed in a clear plastic or vinyl mattress bag.
City cost & eligibility
The mattress collection is part of the township trash program and the township administers a trash fee, so confirm the current terms with Public Works at 610-734-7635 before setting the pieces out.
When & how
Put the mattress out with the regular household collection on the area's trash day, wrapped and sealed first.
Get it ready
Wrap the mattress and box spring in a sealable clear plastic or vinyl covering, seal it completely, and keep it dry, because a rain soaked mattress will not be collected. One mattress and one box spring are allowed for each collection.
Upper Darby picks up large metal household items such as washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, metal filing cabinets and metal shelving for a charge for each item through its bulk trash service.
City cost & eligibility
$20 per metal household item collected through the township bulk trash service, with payment through the Public Works portal or by check or money order. Upper Darby Township address; file the bulk trash pickup request form and pay before the collection is scheduled.
When & how
File the bulk trash pickup request form with the Department of Public Works and pay, then put the item out on the day Public Works assigns.
Get it ready
Empty the appliance, remove or secure the doors, and keep the item at the line rather than blocking the sidewalk. Metal items are the accepted group, which is why a refrigerator, washer or dehumidifier qualifies while a furnace, boiler or piano does not.
A television can go out with the regular Upper Darby trash, one for each trash day, while other electronic devices are not named on the township routes and have to be confirmed.
City cost & eligibility
The television collection is part of the township trash program and no separate fee is published, and no township drop-off for computers, monitors or other devices is published either, so confirm the route with Public Works at 610-734-7635 before a device goes to the line.
When & how
Put one television on the trash line with the regular household collection, out before 7 a.m., and ask Public Works about any other device first.
Get it ready
Remove or protect personal data before a device leaves the house. Televisions count toward the one furniture item allowed for each collection, and electronics never go in the single stream recycling because only paper, cardboard, cans, plastics 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7 and glass containers are collected.
One furniture item and one mattress for each collection
Small tables, chairs, couches, microwaves and televisions go out with the regular trash, but the township allows only one furniture item for each collection. A mattress and box spring go out together as one mattress and one box spring, both wrapped and sealed in a clear plastic or vinyl covering.
Large metal appliances, metal filing cabinets and metal shelving are picked up through the township bulk trash service with a charge for each item, filed on the bulk trash pickup request form and paid before collection. Furnaces, boilers and pianos are not part of this service.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
Any Upper Darby household in one of the six collection areas with ordinary household trash, recyclables or a small furniture piece to put out.
Cost & conditions
The weekly collection is part of the township trash program, which carries a trash fee and a rebate for eligible residents, so confirm the current terms with Public Works at 610-734-7635.
Arrange it
Find the collection area for the address, put the material on the trash or recycling line before 7 a.m. on that area's day, and bring the containers back in by 6 p.m.
One furniture item is allowed for each trash collection, a mattress and box spring have to be bagged and sealed, and fencing, grills, basketball nets, exercise equipment, clean outs tied to a sale or lease, contractor material, dirt, rocks, concrete, bricks, hazardous waste, drums, tanks, tires, furnaces, boilers and pianos are all refused.
Upper Darby Township collects with its own crews and publishes no township drop-off for bulky items, construction debris or electronics. Small furniture, one mattress and box spring, one television and bagged trash go out with the regular collection on the area's day, large metal appliances go through the bulk pickup form with a charge for each item, and yard waste runs on the recycling day between April 6 and October 30. Construction material, tires and exercise equipment are refused, so those loads need a private hauler or a commercial disposal site arranged by the resident. Before you book
A few things worth knowing.
Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Upper Darby.
How much does bulk junk removal cost in Upper Darby?+
A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.
Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
How do I put a couch out for trash in Upper Darby?+
A couch goes out with the regular household trash on the area's collection day, but the township allows only one furniture item for each collection, so a couch and a table cannot go out on the same day. Trash has to be on the line before 7 a.m. and the cans come back in by 6 p.m. Carpet is treated separately and has to be cut to 3 feet, rolled, tied and kept under 40 pounds.Official guidance
Does Upper Darby collect mattresses at the curb?+
Yes, with the regular trash and with conditions. One mattress and one box spring are allowed for each collection, both have to be wrapped and sealed in a clear plastic or vinyl covering, and a rain soaked mattress is not collected. Bags made for the purpose are sold at hardware and home improvement stores, and Public Works answers questions on 610-734-7635.Official guidance
How do I get rid of a refrigerator in Upper Darby?+
Use the township bulk trash service. Upper Darby picks up large metal household items including refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, water heaters, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, metal filing cabinets and metal shelving, and charges a fee for each item. File the bulk trash pickup request form with the Department of Public Works, pay through the Public Works portal or by check or money order, and put the unit out on the day Public Works assigns.Official guidance
Can I put a television out for trash in Upper Darby?+
Yes. Township guidance allows one television for each trash day, and televisions are listed with couches, chairs, microwaves and small tables as items that go out with the regular trash while counting toward the one furniture item allowed for each collection. Other electronic devices are not named on the township routes, so call Public Works at 610-734-7635 before setting a computer or monitor out, and keep all electronics out of the recycling.Official guidance
What does it cost to remove a large item in Upper Darby?+
Most curbside items are part of the township trash program, which carries a trash fee rather than a charge for each piece, and small furniture, one mattress and box spring, one television and yard waste all go out that way. Large metal household items such as appliances are the exception: they are picked up through the bulk trash service with a charge for each item and a request form. Confirm the current terms with Public Works at 610-734-7635.Official guidance
Who collects trash in Upper Darby?+
Upper Darby Township collects trash and recycling itself through the Department of Public Works, with the township split into six areas that each have their own trash and recycling days and a twice weekly summer trash schedule. Public Works answers on 610-734-7635 during business hours, and the township administers a trash fee with a rebate for residents who qualify for the Pennsylvania Property Tax Rebate.Official guidance
Where can I take something the township will not collect?+
Upper Darby publishes no township drop-off for bulky items, construction material or electronics, so a load the township refuses has to go through a private hauler or a commercial disposal site. The township refuses contractor and landscape contractor debris, dirt, rocks, concrete, bricks, tires, hazardous waste, oil and gas tanks, metal drums, furnaces, boilers and pianos, and oil based paint is handled as hazardous waste rather than as trash.Official guidance
