A mattress or box spring is collected through the bulky item service rather than with the weekly carts. It is one of the items the city charges for, so it carries its own per-item fee even inside a household's free bulky allowance.
City cost & eligibility
$20 per mattress or box spring in a scheduled bulky item collection, charged because of the higher landfill rate for the unit. Residential sanitation addresses inside Longview; the item counts toward the eight cubic yard limit for that collection and the fee is billed to the sanitation account.
When & how
Schedule the collection with Sanitation at 903-237-1250, through the CitySend app or with the online form, and put the mattress out no earlier than the day before the collection. The mattress loads travel with the bulky truck rather than the weekly garbage truck.
Get it ready
Wrap the mattress so it stays dry and does not tear, keep it flat and parallel to the road, and leave the box spring with it if both are going out, because each unit is charged separately. Keep the piece clear of the carts and out of the way of the collection crew.
Book a bulky collection before anything goes to the curb
Schedule by calling Sanitation at 903-237-1250, sending a CitySend request or filling out the online form, then put the items out no earlier than the day before the collection. Placing items at the curb authorizes the pickup and counts against the four free collections in the rolling twelve month period, and material left after the eight cubic yards are collected has to come back onto the property.
Carts are out before 7:30 a.m. with everything inside them
Trash and recyclables have to fit fully inside the city-provided carts, and the carts need at least four feet of clearance from cars, trees, trailers and mailboxes, with nothing parked in front of them. Carts go out before 7:30 a.m. on the collection day, leaving them out the night before is allowed, and blocked or improperly placed carts are not serviced.
Recycling now runs one day after the scheduled trash day, and a blue-lidded cart put out early on trash day is skipped and serviced the following day. A cart with household trash or other non-recyclable material in it is tagged and can be removed from the property, so keep styrofoam, clothing, wood, yard waste, bags and food out of the blue cart.
