Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?
Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.
An exercise bike, elliptical or rower
Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.
Weights, racks and benches
Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

The city does not name exercise equipment in any of its collection categories, so a treadmill, elliptical or weight machine has to be confirmed before it goes to the curb, and the Recycling Convenience Center has no separate category for it either.
City cost & eligibility
No published rate covers an exercise machine, because the city's bulk list names furniture, mattresses, home appliances, yard debris and large packaging rather than fitness equipment. Confirm acceptance, the route and any charge with Public Works at 540-434-5928 before the item leaves the house.
When & how
Call Public Works before booking a ReCollect reservation, then, if the machine is accepted, set it out on the reserved collection day with that day's items.
Get it ready
Describe the machine and its size when you call, and ask whether the motor or the electronics inside it change the route. Keep it behind the curb only after the city confirms the item.
Bulk and yard debris are collected on the regular trash day, but only after the address books that day through ReCollect. The reservation closes at 12 pm on the business day before the pickup, and one reserved day covers up to five bulk items and ten yard-debris units. An item that was not part of the reservation is not collected, so book the category and the count before anything moves to the curb.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

No charge. Included with the residential collection service for a city address that receives Public Works trash collection and books the day through ReCollect, with a maximum of five bulk items and ten yard-debris units per reserved day. The service is billed at the city's published residential rate of 22 dollars a month.

Which option covers a Peloton, spin bike or recumbent bike?+
Choose Exercise bike for one stationary bike, including spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes. Peloton and other brands use the same stationary-bike choice. A treadmill, walking pad and outdoor bicycle are different items, so select their matching options.
How do I book free weights, a weight rack or a bench?+
