Lynchburg does not take bulky material with the weekly cart. Bulk runs once a month in the brush and bulk week tied to your trash day, and the city defines it as item of residential waste such as furniture, large totes or similar material that cannot be placed in trash containers.

No charge. Included in the residential solid waste service, which is billed at $10 per month on the water utility bill for each City cart at either the 32 gallon or 64 gallon size. The city publishes no separate per item charge for a bulk set out during the monthly brush and bulk week.
When & how
Bulk is collected during your designated brush and bulk week, not on your trash collection day. A Monday trash day puts you in the first full week of the month, Tuesday in the second week, Wednesday in the third week and Thursday in the fourth week. Set out no earlier than 7 a.m. the Saturday before that week and no later than 7 a.m. on its Monday.
Get it ready
Keep brush, bulk and white goods in separate piles at the curb, clear of hydrants, power lines, trees, vehicles, retaining walls and fences, and at least three feet from the trash cart. Bundles of broken down boxes may not exceed fifty pounds and loose trash must be bagged. The city refuses bags, tires, household hazardous waste, construction, demolition and remodeling debris such as carpet, wood and cabinets, and items made of glass or porcelain such as toilets and sinks, and it does not collect landlord set outs, evictions or land clearing debris. A mattress will not fit in the trash cart, so it falls under the city's bulk definition and leaves on the monthly brush and bulk week. The city's published bulk exclusion list covers glass and porcelain items, carpeting, building debris, tires, chemicals and bags rather than bedding, and the convenience center names beds among the bulky items it takes from residents.

Keep brush, bulk, white goods and tires apart

The city collects each material separately and asks that the piles never be mixed, because a mixed pile is hauled to the landfill. Brush is yard or tree trimmings no larger than 3 inches in diameter and 8 feet long, tied in bundles, and stumps, pallets, landscape timbers, contractor cuttings and bags of yard debris are refused. White goods go out in the same week but not inside the brush or bulk pile, and refrigerators and freezers need their doors secured. What the curb will not take

Hot ashes, liquids, rocks and construction debris never go in the trash cart, and landlord set outs, evictions and land clearing debris are excluded from the bulk and brush services.
